Yeah the company has a good reputation but ultimately it's going to be what AE specs out. Probably won't have the power of your old PD, those were pretty hot. Might look at the Traxxas engine if you want the power

If you want inexpensive, get a new takeout RTR transmitter and receiver off Ebay. Some can be had for ~$30.

I recently got a RC4WD transmitter, receiver, esc, servo, and motor for $60.

I still use my RadioLink(s) for everything. Just ordered the RC10GT Re Release kit. Do you guys have any suggestions for a reliable, inexpensive radio for it? Flysky GT3B. There are MUCH nicer radios out there, but this one is cheap and reliable. Bump up to the GT3C if you prefer.

The Futaba 3PV is also an excellent budget radio if you are ok with spending the extra cash.

I noticed even after seating mine the gear still rubs the arm, and I'm pretty sure I remember the original trucks were pretty close too. Shaving a very small amount from the arm fixed mine.

Trying to remember if there were thicker top shaft spacers in the GT trans? The OG trans cases allowed the thick 7669 spacer on both sides of the top shaft. If so, then you could also use the thinner 3/16 axle shims to space the top shaft a little more in.

Not without changing the plugs and wiring pinout. IMHO, not worth the trouble. Airtronics didn't switch to the Z plug until later.

Those are notorious for causing problems. The spring loaded contacts can be a problem when you fasten the unit down. I would highly recommend using a proper receiver pack.
