Need some help.

Post by Jschoenb »

Ok so I decided to try and take the stealth tranny apart on my 10T to do a little maintenance. This was the first time I've taken one apart. I took the differential partly apart. I only unscrewed the center screw, cleaned it up, put a little differential grease on and put it back together. After I reassembled the rear end and fired it up with my brushless system, I don't have any torque. It's almost like the gears aren't engaged. I hope it's any easy fix. Let me know if you have any ideas what it could be.
Thanks

Pop the cover off check your slipper and tighten it down, it may be slipping too much due to the torque of the brushless- you're probably hitting the throttle and watching it creep along as you hear the motor/gears screaming.

Ya it does just creep along while the gears are screaming but I had the brushless system in before my "maintenance" and I didn't have any problems. I didn't even touch the slipper clutch.

Sounds like the diff is loose, the retaining nut may not me holding well anymore. You may want to get a new diff nut and screw and make sure diff is tightened properly.

That sounds like it could be the problem. By the way what is the proper way to tighten the screw?

Tighten it down in increments stopping every once and a while to spin the outdrives. Tighten it till it is bottomed, then loosen it 1/8-1/4 turn.

K thanks, maybe I didn't tighten the screw enough. I'll give it a try.

Always listen for a "barking" like sound, coming off jumps, hard acceleration, not good. The slipper should always give first.

Oh, and agree with bngiles advice, just be real careful with the bottoming out, don't overtighten or you might indent the rings or flat spot the diff balls.

Was it genuine diff grease or regular ger grease. There is a difference

Can't exactly remember, I'm at work, but it was the one in the clear flip top container.
