I'm rebuilding an old 6 gear and want to put bearings throughout. Is there a top tip for removing the pressed on gears so I can replace the bushing behind the spur gear with a bearing. I want to do it without damaging anything
remove the teflon bushing out of the dif. pinion. suport the back side of the dif. pinion . Use the correct size punch to gently tap the dif. tube out of the pinion. The pinion to dif. tube is a tapered joint and shouldnt take much to seperate. You can now change out the bushing. The second option would be to loacate a six gear with bearings either on rc10talk or ebay.
What year did AE use the black idler gear for the 1st generation grarbox? I know the first kits came out with the white gear but I do not know when they stopped using it.. Anyone? :)

the black idler gears were on the rc10 graphite released in 1989. the tq10 didnt have the updated idlers when it was released. they must be good gears because mine still look new and my car is still being raced today
Hey I know most of you hate the 6 gear tranny but for those like me that have to run them because you dont have Big $$$ for the stealths that are going for crazy prices on ebay (saw one yesterday end for 65$USD shipped  )...I have some good...

WOW lots of info on the 6 gear!
Funny, one of my smoothest (although least efficient) 6 gears is fully bushed. I added bearings to the drive gears and later removed them. I didn't replace the felt seals and retainers as this rig stays on the road....
Just rebuilt my 6 gear tranny. I have a 54 tooth spur gear (64 pitch I think it is). What size pinion should I use for a stock motor? Also does anyone know what that Tranny gear ratio is?

I have always used 1.85 when figuring gear ratios out.
Your gearing is going to depend on the track your racing at, or if bashing, how much speed/runtime/heat your want or are getting.
54 @ 32 pitch = 81 @ 48 pitch (most all modern offroad cars...
I searched but came up with a big fail. So can anyone tell me if the innards of the b3 and b4 gear boxes are interchangeable - in part or whole? Thanks.

I think the idler and top shaft are compatible, but the diff is not.
update:
Just checked the manual and the only compatible part is the idler gear and bearings.

thanks. I was hoping I could use it for a x-factory conversion. Oh well, the...
Is there an alternative to the AE #6627 thrust bearing and washers for the 6-gear diff? I'm having a hard time finding one. The only thing that has come up is from an ebay seller in Canada.

Thinking about it now though...might it be possible to use a thrust bearing to make a diff between the output gears?
You should grab a look at the xls rere manual. That’s pretty much exactly how the integrator works. The Schumacher diff is in the...
I am tryin to get my trans back together and noticed alot of end play on the top shaft. I can move the spur gear in and out. Both the inserts for the bearings for the top shaft look the same and the smaller bearing sits in kinda deep. Am I using the...

I was playin with it while I was answering this post and found another gear in my stash that pressed on farther. It solved the issue for me. The tranny is a little tight but I can live with that. Thanks for the help. My Rc10 is closer to makin some...
