Got the RC10 bug

Post by budhatrain »

Well, not too long ago I found this site from its sister site, clodtalk.com. My first real rc was an rc10t. I was cleaning out my garage about a month before I found this site and actually threw out a goldtube and parts- total party foul.

This last weekend I went and checked out a Monster Truck race event in Holiday City Ohio and cheered on a fellow forum friend and I found this: actually gave the guy only $35 and hope to restore this. What do you think?

There is rust on shocks and other parts- looks easy enough to clean. The sway bar in front is broke. tires are dry rot. Front chassis bar is bent. needs a good cleaning. Really looking forward to this build and refurb. I will sure to ask questions!

Looks like a good deal. Be careful on this site. I found that too much exposure can result in loss of money

It's not really loss of money, it's just converting it into a different form. It's the speed at which this happens which can take your breath away, drain the blood from your face, make your lips tingle and your sphincter tighten.

Hmmm... it's a lot like a roller coaster ride. Potential energy converted to kinetic energy. If it happens gradually then :D if it happens really quickly then sometimes

It is cold outside! Today was a good day and do inside project so I picked this back up and cleaned...wow what a difference. Still don't know exactly what I have but it doesn't look like it will take much to get it good. Tell me what you would do, here are some pics:

So that's where I am at- plastic looks like it cleans easy enough. QUESTION: what's the best way to get all the rust off and bring the hardware back to like- will soaking in CocaCola do? I have a friend that does metal fab and before he does powder coating puts them in a parts cleaner?

Another Question: what do I do with the shocks- do I purchase a rebuild kit (if available) or simply change out shock oil? What do you look for in a properly working shock- what are indicators of a shock gone bad?

The front wheels look pretty nice with AE tires- what would you suggest for rear tire, somewhat the same with nobs?

I noticed that the front sway bar assembly is broke- should I simply solder back on to the doohicky's (offical part name)?

Finally, I think I would like to add a wing? Where can I get the wing mount tubes, wire and buttons?

If there is anything else you noticed and would like to make comments please feel free to give your .02- I need all the help I can get?! I am looking forward to putting this back together- for me it almost feels like putting it together for the first time.

I am going to try to remove the old lexan paint and salvage this body- we'll see how that goes. I am a little intimidated by the transmission but I will get to it sometime. Plus one of the chassis braces are bent and will replace that. Need a rear body mount too.

Thanks Guys!
