Ultima transmission questions.

Post by mc10ce »

I hate when I do that. I was putting my Turbo Ultima tranny back together after doing some work on it. When I went to reassemble the diff, the tray I had all of the small stuff in tipped and sent everything flying. I ended up losing all but three of the small ball bearings for the thrust bearing on the differential, not the diff balls (hope that makes sense). Are these available anywhere else?

Also what kind of diff lube do you guys like to use? Are there any appreciable differences? And would i use standard diff lube for the thrust bearing?

Lastly should I use any grease on the internal transmission gears? I never have on my stealth.

if you know the size of the BB get them at AVID.

i use Associated lube on the diff and MIP on the thrust bearing.

You need p/n WBD-2 from Kyosho. I'm not sure of the exact size or if there is a suitable replacement anywhere else.

Thanks for the help guys. I found them on the Kyosho website. I will try to get everything cleaned up and post some pics of my Turbo. There are some cool Ultima resto's going on right now.

I thought of another question. My internal gears are in great shape but the external gears are a little chewed up. What are my options for these? I've attempted to clean them up slightly with my dremel but haven't gone too far because i'm not sure what kind of replacements/upgrades might be available. Are there or were there any aftermarket upgrades available to replace the external transmission gears for the Ultima's? I would prefer something with 48 pitch. I've been watching the bay but haven't seen a whole lot in the way of gear options. I'm sure they will be tough to come by so in the meantime what do you guys do to refurb older gears?
