I'm looking for suggestions from you veterans with regard to the netting used for the windows on replicas, what are you guys using for something that looks like the box art RC10 body, where the netting is straight up/down and side to side?
Thanks in advance for any help and/or suggestions.
Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but I've used drywall self-adhesive tape to achieve the scale window net look. The great thing is you get a bunch of it on a roll and it's cheap. I buy mine at Wal-Mart.
The mesh tape would work well for some old-timey stuff, like from way back in the early 80s. Ever since then, when some NASCAR driver's arm easily flew through the old style netting, they've used the 1-2" wide nylon webbing. Pinstriping tape would work well for it, you don't even need any clearcoat if you don't mind the shine. On the outside of the body it would give some depth. Usually nets are red or blue.
Actually, I just got an idea; mask off around the window, and lay down some masking tape to represent the vertical lines of the window net, then paint those. Peel that off, lay some horizontal lines, and paint those. You'll be left with a painted grid, with clear squares in the middle. 1/8" tape with 1/8" gaps should work, but play with it a bit. With an airbrush this would go really quick, or you could use Faskolor and a brush.
i like the nylon netting, or netting from a onion bag. i usually find black netting bags with whatever inside at the 99 cent store, dollar trees or walmart. Walmart sold some bamboo cooking spoons for like $2.50 a while ago and it used some nice thick black netting for the bag
Well the thing is I cut out the windows, and need to put the netting in there on the two sides. So there is no plastic there any more. I am creating a box-art car body.
Thanks Mike, I didn't think of those suggestions. Wife and I spent a few minutes at the local crafts store and spotted nothing similar.
thats probably exactly what is is.. last time i went to home depot to look for it they only had the HUGE style, with big 1/4 squares... im sure they make it smaller somewhere
This is exactly what I use, except I buy it at Wal-Mart. It would work fine in a situation where you've cut out the windows. Eau Rouge shows how it's done very effectively.

on the original RC10 they used window netting from a super champ/Hotshot. As you can see by the detail its twisted and looks smoking rad. yyou could pick up some window netting from a re-re hotshot but it's not as nice looking as the vintage stuff.
