Shop compressor questions

Post by SteveK »

OK, so I have this 4 gallon Husky pancake compressor my dad bought for years ago, he never used it and it sort of become mine when I bought my house. It works fine, but it's just loud as heck. I was looking to hook up a roughly 10 gallon tank to it, to leave in my spare bedroom/workshop for use there. Those little cans of computer duster are handy because of the size, but not particularly economical (I never buy them for this use, always end up snagging the ones I buy for electronics).

With a 10 gallon tank charged to 100 psi, how long could I spray at, I don't know, 20-40 psi?

I plan to leave the compressor near the basement door to clean the crud off my cars before I come in, so it wouldn't be a big deal if I had to lug the air tank downstairs every few days to refill it. The bathroom on the other side of the wall is due for renovation soon, so I will probably just run an air line up through the wall cavity while I have access, so I can just walk downstairs and flip a switch. Or get really fancy and wire up a 3-way switch to the outlet downstairs, and leave the compressor switch on the while time.

Short bursts from the 10 gallon tank and it should last pretty well. Considering that you're not doing any heavy work with it or powering a tool, it shouldn't be that bad.

OK, cool. Yeah, no heavy work or powering tools or anything, just generally cleaning stuff, the kind of stuff you'd use cans of compressed air for.
