new used rc10t

Post by freakofnature »

i just picked up an older rc10t at a local yard sale and im having trouble telling if it is a original 10t a t2 or t3. i plan on racing it in the vintage class at my local track. i went there and they told me that it did not "qualify" as vintage because they claim that it is a t4. i know that it has a black alum tub chasis and it has a green can motor that has a sticker on it that says revtech i dont know the turn of the motor. i also plan on using the tekin tsc411p that i got with it (if i can ever fig out how to program it) i do have all 4 original rims. the fronts have proline street tires on them. any help is appreciated here are some pics of it

it's a 1994-ish rc10t. not a t4.

sounds to me like those guys have no business running a vintage class if they don't know the difference.

Welcome to the forum!

I think $50 was ok, but not a good deal. I would have given the person at the yard sale $10-20. You can find nice Team RC10T's on ebay for $50. Yours is a sport RC10T, so it will likely have bushings, not bearings. The chassis has been hacked for the battery lead, but for a runner, who cares? It looks like it will make a nice start for a runner.

I've used the rev-tech motors years ago. They were decent as long as you kept the arm cut., Is there a name on the motor? Sometimes they would scribe the wind on the can, or you can open it up and the arm should have a mark on it.
ASSOCIATED OR NOTHING!!

Dark green Revtechs were either 17 or 18-turn modified motors. I believe the gold logo green can was a 17-turn and the white logo green can was an 18-turn. My memory is fuzzy but those were the visual differences. Neil McCurdy inscribed the turn on the side of the endbell tower, and on the arm poles.

Like all brushed old school motors, they need to be maintained to be fast (zap magnets, new brushes, new springs, cut the com, clean and oil the bearings, etc.), but they were one of the fastest modified motors back in the day.

If those guys at the track don't know the difference between an RC10T and a T4, they need to really stop trying to organize vintage races. They were only about 20 years apart in technology.
