The 10T I just bought has a brushed motor but no batteries or charger. What am I looking for to make my car run? New to this and have no clue.
Thnanks.
Brushed motor batteries and charger questions
Re: Brushed motor batteries and charger questions
Need to know what ESC you have... but there is 3 primary choices battery types Lipo, NiMH and NiCd. Most retail newer chargers charge all 3. Older chargers may only charge NiMH and NiCd. Lipos are by far the best battery choice of the 3 but cost a little more (in my opinion worth every penny).
Basic options for batteries are volts and mah - this is where what ESC you have is important - standard is 7.2V for a 6-cell NiMH/NiCd (7.4V for a 2S lipos) however more cells = more voltage (some ESCs cannot handle higher voltages - mine only handles up to 8.4V for example) and up to 10,000 mah. Higher the mah usually the longer the run time - however may be harder on your motor (i.e. heat).
If your just starting out and buying both new I would suggest a multi charger (that chargers all three battery types) and a 2S 7.4V Lipo in the neighborhood of 2000-3000 mah. I run a 3300 mah 2S Lipo with a 15T brushed motor and geared 18/87 on a SC10 transmission and get 30min runtimes easy and plenty of performance on hilly loose dirt track.
Hope this helps
