You could always see if the green color comes out with a sunshine-peroxide bath. Search the forums to see how.
At worst, nothing will happen. At best, you might have wheels whiter than they were from the factory.
If it doesn't work out, you could always dye the wheels black with RIT dye until you get wheels that you prefer. You can put the black-wheeled car on your shelf with pride ... that was not an uncommon thing to do with cars even back then, so it would be a "period-correct" appearance.
