Updated (only 1 pic) A&L MIP 4wd project

Post by Dr. Robotnik »

Well I saw a post asking for WIP projects and so thought I'd post mine. Here is my first RC10, I am a big fan of vintage hop-ups and so this car at the moment only has the motor plate from a gold tub RC10 (and this has been modded to fit the chassis). So far the car has an A&L fibreglass chassis kit, Hot Trick front arms, Losi ball bearing steering and the MIP belt drive pre-Legend 4x4 belt drive conversion. All parts are brand new and came from sealed packets (except for a few fasteners)!

I have some gold RC10 shocks and aluminium collars to strip and fit too but I'll do this when I have the parts to mount them to. I am still after a few more parts for this car, like the front nose plate, front hop-up shock tower, front and rear bulkhead and the front hingepins. So if anyone has any parts that fit the bill then just drop me an email. I am after ideally hop-ups but original parts are fine too, so let me know what you have.

Thanks a lot and I hope you enjoy my project, (I'll post updates as and when I get parts).

Cheers

Composite Craft nose plate

Post by Dr. Robotnik »

Well I bought that Composite craft nose plate. I paid far to much, but after the month I've been having I felt like cheering my self up. I'll get it mounted and add new pics soon. I also got a Race Prep motor for 0.99p to mount for the moment but would rather a Checkpoint motor. Anyone have one in any condition for sale? I also need Kyosho Gold shocks, and a hop-up front bulkhead and shock tower. :D

Cheers

Ed

Those were made by Fibrelyte in the UK and are meant to go with the full carbon tub moulded chassis they did.

My mate had one on his RC10, but sold it

Nose plate and shock update!

Post by Dr. Robotnik »

Hi guys,

Well here's an update. Just like the title says, I have managed to buy that Composite Craft nose plate which I was after and also have started assembling some shocks. :D

The shocks are RC10 dampers but have gold CRP clamps at the rear. I am going to strip the gold anodizing (on the shock bodies only) and return the shocks to raw un-polished aluminium, like on the box picture on the original RC10 box.

It's really starting to take shape now but I am still a few parts short...

Enjoy 8)

Now I just need to work up the courage to drill the nose plate to accept the front transmission. I don't find it hard to take new parts out of bags but I find it hard to modify new parts.

Update - 95% complete and asembled now!

Post by Dr. Robotnik »

Hi guys and girls,

So this weekend I picked up a bunch of parts from the post office and thought I had enough to make an update with what I've now got on the car. Thanks to all these guys for there help with parts, this car wouldn't be where it is now without you. :D

Shodog sold me a set of front and rear Composite Craft shock towers. I have split up the set for now just to assemble the car. I'd like to keep them as a set, but the A&L shock mounts need me to drill holes in the rear tower. Also the MIP kit requires a slot drilling in the shock tower and bulkhead, I can't decide which one I should chop up. :? The car also now has front hinge inner and outer Titanium hinge pins from RC performance specialties. Thanks mate. :)

Scr8p hooked me up big time with some front shock tower bulkheads, hinge pins, rear bulkhead, battery straps that are on the car. I'd like to say special thanks for all that generousity. 8)

A guy from ebay whom I emailed about these wheels maybe 8 months ago when they didn't sell, hooked me up with 4 pairs for $14 the other day. He said he'd give me an amazing deal for being so patient. I was well happy. The tires are only provisional but its all I had. Up front some CRP dynamite spikes which I got in a miscellaneous parts lot from Mrlexan on ebay last year and in the rear some Tamiya Super Gripper oval blocks from my first Tamiya Hornet which I have had for over ten years!

I have got JRX2 tie rods and CRP ball ends provisionally connecting up the front end and am on the look out for some Tecnacrafts. :o

I think that's about it really, only a few more jobs.

-I just need some front springs for the shocks and to clean up them and the rear motor mount.
-I need to mount the battery straps and belt tensioner.
-I need to cut the shock tower and rear bulkhead to fit the trailing arm chassis and MIP 4x4 belt drive.
-I need to get a rear wing and wing wire. I'd like a quite large square shape multi level wing in either alloy or Lexan.
-Then its all the fun of deciding on a paint job (I have a Jammin body) and decals (I haven't any as yet). Any suggestions? Anyone got any vintage pics of past champions to copy?

Thanks to everyone who's helped out so far and here are the pictures;

Just one picture :-)

Post by Dr. Robotnik »

Just the one picture, as you can see I am still hesitatiting before fitting the MIP 4wd kit, just getting the parts set-up right. Themain job at the moment is to make adaptors to fit the Kyosho Optima wheels to the RC10 axles. :? I am struggling to work out how to fit them and maintain the current track at either end.

Thanks to AYKBOBCAT for the front shock towers and OG RC10T for the shocks. Oh and also cheers to Aconsola for the MIP 4-10 stickers which arrived yesterday 8)

Hey man, any chance of scanning those decals? I could use a set for my project.
