kaiser's "whats old is new" thread
kaiser's "whats old is new" thread
well i finally did it, i ordered most of the stuff i think i need for an old is new build.
klein arms all around
10t nose plate and bulkhead (thanks flipwil11)
gt wide front axles
b44 rear cvd's
rpm gt hub carriers
10t carbon fiber shock towers
viper body
b4 top shaft and slipper
avid revolutions
i still need shocks and a wing.
i have plenty of b4 wheel and tire combos
i'd like a black pan, but the ce goldie will do for now.
i have a couple of questions:
will the gt axles fit in the stock spindles?
is there anything else i'm missing?

The GT axles will fit the inline spindles, but you'll need to drill them out. I did the same thing to some Andy's spindles and it works just fine. Or you can use the 6221s.
Transmission and turnbuckles?
Good luck with the build!

Re: kaiser's "whats old is new" thread
i'll just get some 6221s then. cheap enough.
i have a stealth with b4 topshaft and slipper and i have a bunch of ft truck turnbuckles so i'll see what fits.
thanks! i can't wait to start.

Re: kaiser's "whats old is new" thread
that'll depend on ball stud placement, your front tower, rear bulkhead, rear hub carriers, ball cups, etc. all i know is that truck ones will not fit. thye're way too long.
Re: kaiser's "whats old is new" thread
ok, cool.
i'll just head to the track when it's mostly together as they have a great selection. i'd like to stick to ft blue ones as thats what the rest of my cars have on them.

Re: kaiser's "whats old is new" thread
ya, just build it with used tierods and ball cups until you get the geometry setup. make sure when you mock it up to use the same cups you plan on using once it done. some are longer than others. if you don't, you need to take that into consideration when buying the turnbuckles so you get the correct lengths.

Re: kaiser's "whats old is new" thread
looks like you got a good start. Keep the questions coming when ever they come.
Re: kaiser's "whats old is new" thread
i see guys are using stock rc10 castor blocks (c hubs), but the angle looks weird.
do the 6221's work ok with the stock castor blocks?

i need an answer to this and a couple of other questions:kaiser wrote:i see guys are using stock rc10 castor blocks (c hubs), but the angle looks weird.

what hinge pins are you guys using for the klien arms, the stocker fronts are short.
what wheel base are you guys using? in the front i mean, are you setting it up like a 10t or are you using the shorter rc10 setup?
i ask this because the 10t/gt front tubes are too long on the swb setup.
thanks!

Re: kaiser's "whats old is new" thread
you have to use 10t/gt inner hinge pins.
i'd use the shorter"buggy" wheelbase. just drill and tap 2 new holes in the nose brace tubes.

Re: kaiser's "whats old is new" thread
i got it all together last nite, just need to paint it and get it dialed to rchr's track.
here's my parts list:
vintage black rc10 tub w/ rc10t nose plate
rc10gt blue nose tubes
rc10t graphite shock towers
sc10 blue shocks
rc10gt wide front axles
6221 spindles
rpm rc10t front bumper
stock rc10 white c hubs
klein a-arms front and rear
rpm rc10gt rear hubs
ae ft blue alloy screw kit
freshened up the diff with new balls, thrust washers and balls and flipped the plates.
b44 rear cvd's
custom works .125" rear wheel spacers
b4 wing mounts
ae vintage viper body
vintage protech batt strap
ae graphite trans brace
ae ft blue ti turnbuckles w/ white rpm ball cups
tekin rs / 17.5 combo
jconcepts rulux wheels
losi taper pins and bk bars
futaba 2pl / 603gf / hitech 625mg
i'm never going to add all that up. lol $$$$ fun build though.
i can't wait to hit the track with it so i can compare it to my jrx2, then i'll decide which car i'm running at the vonats.
i may offer up whichever i don't run as a vonats loaner.
