First Dive into RC10s

Post by JK Racing »

Well, I've been haunting this forum for a couple months, always have loved the vintage cars, kicking myself for ever getting rid of my JRX2, the very first run, when the box was white with red JRX2 letters on it, no box art or anything....

I finally made the dive and bought an RC10 to build into a runner, saw the auction on ebay, emailed the guy, and BAM...I am the proud owner of a couple of (I think) worlds edition buggies...and it appears a clear, uncut body.

If you guys could help me with which model this is, I am going to build a resto-rod style runner....all new style electronics/batteries, rims tires, but original style everything else. Take a look...more pics once it arrives.

I'm not good at this but I think the black one might be a Team car and the gold might be a CE, thats my guess, nice find though :)

Got the cars yesterday...cant post any more pics or anything, celebrating the youngest's 2nd birthday at Disneyland all weekend.

The clear body is a Viper, the HPI rear black rims are in pretty good shape. The team car feels in good condition, diff action is nice, shocks are very smooth. The gold CE car needs work. The shocks all feel empty, the trans is very tight, and the holes (if you look really close you can see them) in the chassis appear to be done with a punch, not a drill....really chuncked up bad. This will probably be the A&L donor car, the 6 gear will go in the team car, stealth to the A&L runner I am planning. Just a few more items to pick up, then the build shall begin. I will take pics all along the way. Tear down & rebuild.

Plan at this point:

A&L trailing arm chassis kit
Stealth trans...maybe with the RPM 2.65 kit installed
Team shocks all around
Novak 6.5 brushless
Spektrum
Airtronics 94258 hooked to MIP steering
CVDs
For the front end, I am going to open the floor to suggestions. I would like to do the worlds type front end, using the narrow noseplate, or go full wild and have a custom noseplate made for a B4 front end. If I go that route, I may attempt to drop the B4 trans in there too....and yes, race Mod buggy with it. If I go B4 front end, I will use a B4 body too, that way I dont have to hack up a classic.

Ideas are welcome to other current race day worthy upgrades needed.

Joey - If you didn't know already, the A&L chassis is drilled for a 6 gear type transmission. You'll have to drill new holes for a stealth. Don't worry, it can be done as I've done it with my A&L conversion. Though, I don't think you're too worried about a few extra holes.

My other devious plan is to take the fiberglass "blank" and have one cut out for 3.5mm Carbon Fiber...wish I could find kick up blank to have machined so I dont have to use a nose piece.
