New Super Champ
New Super Champ
My sweet wife wanted to surprise me with something nice. Boy did she ever!
She knew that my first real rc car (I had a Tyco Turbo Hopper before this one) was a Super Champ and that we got at a flea market and I'd always regretted letting it go. Sold it cheap too. So she found this car on ebay and hit the BIN. I think the price may have been just a bit steep but man what a nice car! This car was built years ago then put away. I'm not sure why it has a replacement body kit, the seller has had it for only 3-4 years and bought it this way. He threw in a nice new set of chrome rims and extra rear control arms with camber stops that were not in the ad. The deal also included some nice aluminum wheel fronts. I'm not 100 percent sure but the only things I know are missing are a manual, box and the wrench.
My plans are to build it up, (not sure I can just do box art) and shelf it for now. I may have to track down some hop up parts too...
The last pic is a shot of my old one I had in 1987.

Re: New Super Champ
Aren't most of the hop ups pretty much just pricey substitutes for the originals anyway?tamiyadan wrote:...it renders all that after market stuff junk.

Re: New Super Champ
Redscampi, She sounds like a keeper. That is one fine condition Super Champ.
I disagree. There are a lot of useful period hop ups. The thorp ball joints were a God send compared to the stockers. the CRP/RCH hardened front suspension pins were way tougher than the the "upgraded" pins that came with the SC. The front coil over set will help the dismal front dampers work smoother with no binding. Personally I like the RCH nylon front arm set simply from the unsprung weight standpointtamiyadan wrote:Don't bother with the CRP coil over conversions or the CRP wider front end kit or re-enforced suspension tubes, once you throw on the 2 above parts it renders all that after market stuff junk.
