Vintage AE's airbrush experience

Just recently I stole Rod's airbrush and compressor...........well, not really he doesn't like painting and I have lost of spare time when I go away and work in the field so I offered to do some painting for him. I have never used an airbrush before, so what he gets is not going to be great work. I will try my best of course, but we'll see what happens. On the list is a McAllister Toyota GTP, Proline Toyota SC10, Viper Team Car, B3 box art? and a Masami something or other lol.

Here are a few of my rattle can jobs, which suck in comparison to using an airbrush IMO. I always spray too much paint with the can and my crappy masking job doesn't stand a chance with the amount I lay down Lets hope I learn the art of the airbrush for Rod's sake.

Okay, I actually have a couple of the bodies done. I just figured I would document my progress. The two Toyota bodies are complete and I now have the Team Car body masked up. The SC10 body looks crappy with the cell photo camera and of course there are no decals. I will have to get Rod on board with snapping some finished shots after he's done with them.

Here is how the progress is going

I forgot this Traxxas T-Maxx 1.something or other...the first one. I restored it for a friend and the original body was destroyed. After completely restoring the thing (minus the bumpers and engine) I had to get a new body. This is a rattle can job. I put a coat of flat black on the outside on the topper.

I got to try my hand on fading with the Team Car, and I must say, I like it I feel like I want to play and waste a bunch of paint. Rod, I hope you like it! I'll probably do better when it comes to doing my own

Of course more cell photos. This actually looks much better in person.

They all look great and the Viper turned out much nicer than we thought eh? Looks fantastic! Your rattle can jobs are very nice, nothing wrong with them! Thank you for painting, and I'm happy it sounds like your having fun! You get better each time!

Found this in my photo album, a real one that you can touch and flip through. I think I've come a long way since this paint job

Looks great VAE. A nice air brush and you'll never want to go back to a rattle can. Just lays out so nice and its not your fault...you really can't not put to much paint on with a rattle can .

Thanks! I didn't not realize how much better airbrushing wasn't. Looks like I'm going pawn shop shopping for an air compressor with a tank and maybe even a used airbrush depending if I can find a decent one. I definitely like the control of adjusting the amount of paint with the slight movement of the thumb. I don't know if I could even use a basic airbrush with just the single action trigger.

Harbor Freight Tools has really nice airbrushes (in my opinion) for really cheap, as well as inexpensive compressors. I think I paid less than $60 for both out the door.

That might be a good one, but my wife thought this one would better suit me. She said I could airbrush like a pro

Got the Matt Francois B2 body complete. This one was a challenge for me. I need to work on my shadowing, cause I suck ass at it right now. Also, I couldn't cut a smooth round line if my life depended on it...as of right now. I will get better, I hope.

Rod, this one is a runner body for sure... It's decent, but not great
