My AMB transponder save

Post by JK Racing »

Warning: I dont recommend this, but it wasnt working prior to my "fix".

Symptoms, transponder would turn on & off, seemingly randomly. Frustrating to say the least.

Problem, wire broken INSIDE the case :(

Peeled the case off & soldered new leads. Worked for a while, but turned out to be fragile. Repaired it several times.

So I got some JST plugs (male & female) and went to town reworking the transponder again.

Results: moveable transponder, wiring stays in the car now :)

Cool mod. I like the idea of leaving the wire in the car. 8)

I didnt think to take pictures as I was putting the female JST connector on. I hot glued it in, put the "cover" back on top and used some 1" wide clear shrink wrap in both directions to seal it all up. I cut the wrap in the corner to access the plug I added.

The wires are the part that keeps getting goofed up. I share my transponder across all my cars, the wire gets all buggered up after a couple race weekends.

Not many of my hack saves work all that well, but this one looks good at least.

Ok Joey, give up the goods... :| How'd you program it to count at 1.3 laps per ping? Are you using algorithms from a sub-sonic force to to disable the system just long enough for you to hack a few extra laps?? I'm not looking to bust you... I just need the "King System" installed in all my racers. It'll be our little secret.

that and using a 20+ year old transmitter putting out "dirty" signals

on an honest note - the transponder is working flawlessly so far this race weekend, i've swapped it between 3 different cars and it only takes seconds. quite a few other racers are taking notes and wanting a closer look.

You kids and you're new-fangled toys... why back in my day you had to wind a rubber-band up as tight as you could and just let it go! Young whipper-snappers with their rock-n-roll music and high-tops...
