Vintage Novak electronics

I've been assembling a collection of vintage radio gear so I can start outfitting my buggies. This set up is slated for my 6016 buggy. First is my Novak 2H high powered servo which came out in 1983.



Next is my 1X ESC which was the top of Novak’s line esc for 1985.



I have a Novak NER-2X receiver made in 1987 on its way from an eBay seller



I’d like to find a NER 2S if anyone has one for sale.

One question I have is will a heat sink for a T1X work for the 1X? I installed it on the esc but maybe the configuration is wrong.

hmm.................

the T1x i had back in the day had the heat sinks from let's say a T1 or T4. the long, narrow heat sink bridged the 2 rows of fets. then the short one was on the end. the horizontal fet on the bottom didn't have a heat sink. actually, i don't remember if the t1x had that fet.

this is all i can offer on the subject. i don't which heat sinks would've come with a 1x.

If you're putting power to that ESC be careful... I'd guess the two parallel rows of fets are forward, the single fet in line with them is brake, and the one on the bottom is a Schottky diode. You don't want to bridge the forward and brake fets...

Temple is right, I got it backwards. In the manual it says it doesn't need them

You'll also need to sort out your Rx plugs... I see a Futaba G on the servo, but the Ner2x looks to be J as well as the 1X. There are short adapters to go from G to J...but I find that they just clutter things up.

^ Is switching plugs just a simple soldering job?

I plan to switch out the G plug for a J plug. It's strange the pic of the 1982 1A servo looks to have a J plug but the 2H has a G plug http://www.teamnovak.com/timeline/timeline_1/index.html

I had no problems swapping my NES1A from JR to G, it's fiddly, but with a good iron, steady hand, good light and magnification not a big deal.
