Blue Eagle LS
Hey there guys, Seeing I'm off work now for the winter, And have some spare time, I figured I would start a thread on my Blue Eagle LS.
I bought this back in late June, The guy posted here and on the Traxxas forums about it, trying to figure out or "remember" what he had, after some negotiating I made the purchase from him.
Anyhow, This has been sitting since 1999, when it was last used/raced, Spent most of its life on a indoor carpet track. This BE-LS is in very nice shape, as is the original body, and parts.... It even still has a protective chassis film installed on the underside. I have not pulled the film off yet, but from what I can see wheres its lifting, the chassis should be pretty much scratch free or very minimal at best.
My plans are kinda up in the air as of what I'm gonna do with it, Shelf it, run it, with either vtg or new brushless electronics, sell it????? But thats just me, my plans sometimes change from week to week, day to day. (you guys know what I'm talking about)
Either way it will get a complete tear down, cleaning, and reassembly no matter what I choose to do with her. I did replace a output yoke off the trans, and sounds like there might be a stripped gear inside. Will find out when I open it up.
As of now heres some pic's I just took of it. Will update as time allows.

Re: Blue Eagle LS
Nice one Dave. Looks to be in really nice shape. Wasn't this the one that he thought the idler was bad in it?
Todd
p.s. you know you wanna go brushless

Thanks Todd, I don't think there was any mention of a bad idler? I could be wrong thoughklavy69 wrote: Nice one Dave. Looks to be in really nice shape. Wasn't this the one that he thought the idler was bad in it?

Actually it kinda sounds like a bad idler, when "feeling" out the trans
Yeah, If I do keep it for a runner, I do believe brushless would be the way to go.

Re: Blue Eagle LS
it might've been in pm's or in a thread about it. I remember the truck and some of the details...like wishing I could've validated owning another one

Thanks man,BMKTW2 wrote:Very nice score Dave
You gonna put a brushless motor in it?
Yeah that will be the plan, If I keep it and use it as a runner.

Re: Blue Eagle LS
Little bit of a update,
Started tearing it apart for a good thorough cleaning.
I was able to get the protective film off the chassis, using a hot blow dryer, with out too much effort, there were a few areas where a heavy sticky residue was left behind, but used some Goo Gone gel on it, let it sit for awhile and came off pretty easy. The underside of the chassis is MINT, except one small scratch near one of the tranny mounting holes (looks like the ole slip of a screwdriver to me)
The trans problem I thought I felt, gears are worn slightly, but must be in the diff itself, it feels very rough/stiff when I turn it, I'll have to look into that.
Cleaning up some of the parts as of right now. Will hopefully have it all reassembled soon.
Few pic's of the tear down. and the chassis.

A super clean LS you have there. The gears look really worn out. Good thing the PO put the chassis protector on it for you haha
So are you going to put upgrade gears in it to handle brushless motor?

Thanks man,
Yeah on a closer inspection, the gears are worn pretty good, I think I have a complete set of stock gears (idler, top, and diff) somewhere around here.
I might be having a brain fart here, but cant I use the gears, including the whole diff from the VXL (Rustler, Pede, etc.) trannys.
Either way I will be replacing the gears, and if the VXL gears are a direct fit, that will be the route ill most likely go.

Nice project! Look forward to seeing it completed. I still need to paint the TBG body for my BELS and it will be complete.

Re: Blue Eagle LS
Well got all the parts cleaned up, They look alot better then before, I ordered some gears for the trans, I'm just going with a delrin top gear, aluminum idler and the stock 4660 diff gear. That way I will keep it more or less stock with the ball diff.
Once my gears come in, and holiday passes, I will reassemble everything. I Cleaned up the front stock tires and scored some NEW stock rears, bargin priced at a LHS.
Still up in the air as to what I'm actually gonna do with it.
Heres a couple pic's I took, There is kinda a blue tint in the photos, came out that way do to some plant lamps on near by I guess.

Re: Blue Eagle LS
Well guys, Got most of it reassembled. All new gears in the transmission, she's nice and smooth now. Basicly 95% new screws. Still got a few more pieces to install, and mount the tires, waiting on a set of fresh wheels. I also went back to the original width bumper, the shorter cut down one had a nice crack at the mounting hole.
Unfortunately to some of you, This will be a shelfer...(like a lot of my rebuilds end up ) Its just to clean and original to run. Also thought of throwing it on the market possibly
Either way here's a few pics.
