Some of my AYK projects

Post by AYKBOBCAT »

So I was at my parents place not long ago. The last day before leaving I digged a few of my cars out of boxes. I only found the projects I was working on before leaving Canada. They are not complete and wait for my return. I also have 2.5 Super trail buggies in parts that needs rebuilds (couldn't find them)... Anyways, these are ment to be runners one of these days...

So a bobcat (with the front dual shock upgrade, black front A arms, upgraded radio plate and ball diff), a Sidewinder with pro radiant shocks, a Radiant with metal A arms and a ProRadiant wich a bunch of things like CVDs and I can't remember the rest... The chain looks weird on that one because I stuck the steering servo on the side of the chassis with double sided tape and it did not stay so the Servo is falling againts the chain but it's allright... That's all I could find that day... All the rest is packed in boxes... The picts are not looking good but I literally took them the last 30 minutes before leaving... Hope you like them....

I love the sidewinder!
What are you using as a body for it?

I'd love to do it but I'm in the Netherlands and the buggy is in Canada.... I thought of getting someone to cut me one in thicker carbon for a while...

Well the AYK bobcat body fits well (it was one of the options in the book) but I don't want to use the only NIB that I have. Unless I get a repro. I think most RC10 ones would fit too.

As it is I haven't run these buggies I was lowly building them and got a temporary job in the Netherlands so I didn't bring them.

I also want to find better wheels and tires for the bobcat and Sidewinder

is the front shock conversion on the bobcat a factory option. Ive got a really good used sidewinder body that I would be willing to make a mould with but would need someone that could pull the bodies for me as I dont have anywhere near me that does it.

The front shock tower conversion was aftermarket I think. I can't remember who made it and I think it was loose (but new) in a box of parts I got. I had to add holes for the ball joints. I think it was ment to only add dual shocks... The way I have setted it up the wheels axles assembly is not wobly anymore.... That's fixing a major problem for that buggy.

I'd love to have a repro of that body... Maybe MrLexan can help???

Someone get me a body and if I can get my stuff together, consider it done (as I mentioned in the past, apartment living has my hands tied a bit with big projects like that).

Still looking for someone to trace me out a chassis for the Race Prep Radiant (Woobie? Still have yours?)

I think you'll have plenty time still to pick it up: mr. lexan has no clear view yet on when his appartment life will end, right Jay?
Tadracket also has plans in the repro business, but may get ready a bit sooner?

I'm gonna try to scan a body* and clean up the data so it can be used for cnc milling path creation.
Just waiting for a candidate with the capability of creating the cnc program from an STL mesh or surface model. Anyone?

*: I don't have an AYK body though, so the first test will be something else.

Well

Eventually I'll go home and I have a NIB bobcat and Sidewinder (pipe frame), and used Radiant, ProRadiant and Super trail. I even have the truck conversion body for the Radiant (used).

Pipe frame i can scan, more or less ok, but no way to reproduce that easily except for 3d printing and other rapid protoytping methods.

Super trail would be Super! I don't have the car but it is one of my favourite bodies. Want, want, want.
Going the scanning way should be easier for used and trimmed bodies (including open windows). Only thing we need to find still is people with the capability of bridging the gap between the scan data and the milled mould. I can do the scanning, Tad can do the pulling...

Making a plaster mould would just be more expensive to send, and more fragile than the original body.

If I can find a used, paint body in japan , we basically need to send only data overseas. A new unct body also has advantages, but I'd need to use a powder spray cause scanning does not work on transparent material.
The powder spary comes off easliy afterwards luckily, but I haven't found a source for it yet here in Japan.
