Any tips for preserving foam onroad tires?

Post by huminski »

Finally found the "right" tires for my losI jrxs type r shelfer. They're proline pro-53 foams which have a slightly oversized wheel coupled with a low profile foam tire. These seem fairly hard to find any more so I would like to do whatever I can to keep them in good condition. Anyone have any tips for long term storage of foamies? Car is kept in a plastic bag, packed in paper, stored in the original box. Anything else I can do?

Makes sense, would block UV as well as probably have some moisturizer in it as well.... :)

Sunscreen for sure, also a great traction compound for pavement

How is the car a shelfer if it is kept in a plastic bag, packed in paper and stored in the original box? Just giving you a hard time.

Because inside it's little cocoon, it's sitting on a shelf. :)

I used some old Racer's Choice tire compound I had leftover for the foams on my LX-T. I slopped it on and let it soak, then rubbed it in with my fingers and they have stayed soft since then.

I'll give the sunscreen a try since I remember hearing about that many years ago when I raced carpet oval. I also remember hearing that hand lotion also worked. :?:

putting them in a ziploc bag out of the sun light will keep them fresh too. also putting them with other foam tires has it advantages?? i have a bunch of foam tires in a box, unprotected, and for some weird reason none are cracked or rotting.
