I leave that to a professional mechanic
The only thing I do nowadays is changing to snow-tires and in the spring back to summer-tires. 8)

I did the impale with a screwdriver method once, works great. The only thing is you're fully committed at that point...

These days I am lazy and take it in to a shop to get done, but when I was younger I always did it myself to save money and make sure it was done right. It also takes 0W-20 so there is not much chance of the shop putting in conventional oil when I paid for synthetic. I have yet to do it on my Subaru, but want to just so I can change oil without having to do anything awkward to get off the filter. My car's filter is on the top of the engine 8) It is pretty much a drain plug only operation getting under the vehicle.
