Rebuild after 5 hour enduro

Post by Rizzo »

G'day guys
Recently a few friends of mine thought that it would be really cool to use my RC10 in a 5 hour vintage enduro held at the Castle Hill track in Sydney.
I thought, "Cool, 5 hours, what could possibly go wrong"..................we came dead last, broke pretty much everything, all the chassis setup & shock changes I made leading up to the event made the car a nightmare to drive, massive understeer, then halfway through the 5 hours it turned to oversteer. if it wasn't for the help of our competition sharing parts we wouldn't have made it to the end.

It was possible every now & again for all of us to string some very nice laps together & run with the front runners, if ever so briefly, but it was mentally draining to do so & our team probably was the least experienced as far as regular racers were concerned.
Despite that, it was a day of vintage racing so it's going to be fun............most of the time. Still, came home a trophy for best looking race car , which was pretty cool. (thanks Darryn)

So then I had to completely rebuild the car, almost replaced everything as I was still using mostly the original parts from 1990! Thats vintage!

For those of u worried about using your lovely Lohas wheels, don't be. I've now done 3 vintage meets with them , the last being a 5 hour enduro & they are still perfect
Massive thanks to my team mates, AJFord, CaptSplatt & Mallos2000 who did not once whinge or whine about the car all day.

Jak

Love your car - where did you get the light pods and can you show how you have them hooked up?

Nice! That sounds like a lot of fun. (good looking car, too)
2 weekends ago we ran a 500 lap enduro. Ours was onroad though... GT2/21.5 TC. We also had to hook up lights to our cars. After 2 hours or so my car was pretty hammered. I can just imagine what 5 hours would have done to it!

Very nice looking car!

On a side note, here in NJ, there's a 24 Hour on road endurance race called the 24 hours of Jackson. The team cracks open the box, builds the car, paints it, installs the light kit, and starts running for 24 hours. They use current Tamiya TT-01 chassis cars. It's a blast!! And it's coming up in a few weeks...
ASSOCIATED OR NOTHING!!

Man that's a killer looking car to put thru such abuse. I love it! 4 hour races are very popular at the local track here, but with box stock Slashes. The teams open the box, run the hell out of it and then they auction them off. They go cheap as you can imagine.
