XXX4 from nothing to something!
XXX4 from nothing to something!
In 2010 I buy a very cheap Losi XXX4 without electronics. I play a little with it, but was all plastic and some graphite. The chassis was new and graphite one, this was the reason I get the car.
Year ago I have a change to buy another car, but this time with some upgrades. Without knowing how the parts are looking, buy having some pics I bought it. It was very rare to get a car like this in Romania or even Europe.
But the car was in very bad conditions.
Pictures can be seen here...: please take a look!

Since 2010 I managed to get a lot of parts for this particularly model and start rebuild.
So, first I rebuild this car with stock parts and them, after making some custom ones and buy some Losi ones I managed to finish my project.
The front part has a chassis saver made out by steel! It can be see here:

The steering mod is unique, my design. It has the angle like the steering mod that involves to cut the from chassis.

Towers, battery holder, steering parts were design by me and also milled.
If you have got a question, please ask! I can make more pics if you want on specifically zone.
Thanks!

Re: XXX4 from nothing to something!
And some interesting parts/mods for this model, some of them were inspired from others.

In the first pic from the album you can see rear aluminum hubs with additional 1deg for tow. Are from ST Racing made for xxx scb.
The second pic shows the strengthen spindles with carbon fiber and some resin. The casters are Aluminum, so no need for mods there.
In third pic you can see the upper chassis saver, made out of steel and holds over the chassis for additional strength. Because the impact force is more uniform with this brace, the chassis will last better.
Also you can see some aluminum rectangle shapes with 2 holes that holds the diff covers with the chassis. Now, the diff covers bottom holes will not break anymore.
A week point for this car is the front cover. Also, with the mod above is a lot better, but, the front bumper also need some custom mod. I cut some material from the 4 (2 on each side) holes from the front diff cover, add 1mm trick carbon fiber and then 2 holes of 2.4mm and tread of 3mm. Also cut the holder from the bumper, add some heat and tight the bumper on the new holes. This was inspired from racing competitions.
And last, the custom steering uses 2 thrust bearings on each side instead of normal bearings. Smooth, better Ackerman angle and less flex than plastic. But, was not so easy, need extra holes and parts, but, nice result.
Hope you like this car I can't find the motor clamp made of aluminum in the pics is just red painted
If you know something about this nice Losi model and also what improvement can I get, please help and post!
Thanks

Re: XXX4 from nothing to something!
Thank you very much! All parts were design by me, I will, maybe, make a chassis brace also for rear, but at this point is ok. Need a better servo saver, with less backlash and an aluminum motor clamp:( Do you know where I can find?

Re: XXX4 from nothing to something!
Thats really cool! Think Im gonna try and ditch my xx4 runner and replace with xxx4. Looks like a perfect car to blast high speed runs. Supposedly the drive train was noticeably more efficient than the competition.
