Fun with 870c

Post by rccars4sal »

Heres one I cooked up from the last of my 870c parts pile. Its actually built from mostly new or very lightly used parts. Shock towers are 4.0mm fiberglass,, got a a slab of the stuff,, a bit thick, fits and works perfectly tho. Bulk heads are RPM. Had been keeping these around, couldnt put them on a 91 so this project just called for them. Rear shocks are Losi, too long, but very plush. Fronts are Kyosho, el plastico junko. Top deck is a one off cut specifically for the rpm bulkheads 1.5mm. Ittl get white trays and straps tomorrow.

Thanks! I didnt realize how thick this g10 was untill it arrived. Stiffer than 3.0mm carbon. This build was inspired by several other members projects that have used white g10. I like the contrast. This car might also get an A&L rc10 steering set, as its a cobble of non stock parts as is.

Nice work, looks great :)

Where did you source the g10 from, need some g10 that matches the Yokomo glassfibre but can't seem to find any.

Very cool!

I've been wanting to run my 870C more, but between traveling and racing my modern stuff (I have way too many runners...something like 18 models on my transmitter), I haven't had time :( Hopefully soon, though.

G10 was gotten from ebay. It was a slight risk, because the color looked different online, and the thickness was given in inches,, so I quickly made a metric comparison, and hit the BIN. It ended up thicker than estimated, and color was just right. Pretty sure theres still a slab of it available from USA seller.

This car is also going to get a hex drive conversion, and my shelfer will go back to Yok axles. It should probably get the Andys arms too,, just to keep the mod theme in full swing. Indeed,, fun tearing old 870c cars apart mixn matching pieces and rebuilding.

If I could figure out some radio problems,, Id have about 18 runners too! Right now all that runs in my fleet is a slash 4x4, my kids cars, and a bj4x4 WE,, with radio problems....

you could always go back to fm/am with individual channels so you could have everyone over to run at one time

Went ahead and swapped suspension, and axles from my other 870c. It was kinda a half and half build with aftermarket and stock. Now the 2 cars are a bit more focused. One car is mostly stock, the other with rpm bulk heads is about 90% aftermarket.

Hopefully some newer, better pictures soon to showcase the differences.
