Project RC10 Championship Edition!
There's just something about these buggies that keep me coming back for more. I ran across this RC10 Championship Edition buggy by inquiring about a Team Car in a classified ad. The seller said it had already sold, but he said that "he had just the car I was looking for." I also have the correct Reedy Force II stock motor, and a Novak Rooster Reversible esc on the way. Not sure if the Rooster esc is period correct? Also, did this car come with a Protech II or Viper body? I'm leaning more toward the Protech II, because from my research, I think Associated included the Viper body on the last run of the all black plastic CE's. I'm not 100% sure about it, so any helpful info on that would be great!

Wow, Joey that car is super clean!!
Not sure which body it came with (you seem to have done your research) but, if it were mine, I'd use the body I liked best.
Whatcha got planned for her?

Re: Project RC10 Championship Edition!
Nice score!
The one I luckily found a couple of years ago has the Viper body. The car has only been on display in a hobby shop.
The stealth version was produced between -92-96.

Here is a link to some of the ESCs presented in the RCCA mags from -85-96.

Re: Project RC10 Championship Edition!
Thanks XLR8. Yeah, I'm surprised that I actually ran across this buggy, and even more surprised in the condition that it's in... The guy I bought it from is a collector, and it seems that he is as meticulous about these models as I am. He said it looked like it had been ran one time, and I do believe that's the case judging by the tire wear.
I plan on getting an Andy's box art themed Viper body for it, considering the gentlemen's responses below that this car came with a Viper shell.

Re: Project RC10 Championship Edition!
Thank you sandkil. Wow, yours is in great shape as well! You did a knockout job on the clean up! Thanks for the info on the years the stealth version was produced for this buggy, and the esc timeline link which is both useful and interesting. Also, for the tip on simple green and hot water. It looks like the Rooster esc ('93) was around maybe a year earlier than the Zebra CE ('94)?sandkil wrote: ↑Thu Dec 20, 2018 7:31 am Nice score!

Re: Project RC10 Championship Edition!
The car came in the mail yesterday evening, and it's in really nice shape. I see that it has bushings instead of bearings. So I guess that will be my first upgrade. This car will be a VERY VERY light runner , so I want it to be efficient and smooth rolling. I want to use Avid bearings. But since this car has the Stealth, would I need to order the World's car bearing set.. plus (4) 3/16" x 5/16" x 1/8" bearings for the front wheels? Am I correct on that? Thanks for any help.

Re: Project RC10 Championship Edition!
The Worlds kit from avid has all the correct bearings you need. There will be 4 extra 3/16 x 3/8 bearing left over.
The steering bellcrank on the worlds car uses (4) 1/4 x 3/8 flanged bearings. You will have to use them in your rear hub carriers instead of (4) 3/16 x 3/8 bearings.

Hey Joey, since you're planning to run the car, you may want to invest in a chassis protector. Having a scratched pan will greatly impact future resale value.

Re: Project RC10 Championship Edition!
Along my search for front tires, it had seemed that the traxxas 2.1" spiked front tires for the trx bandit was my only option... until I found these. I had always wanted a set of Pro-Line waffle weave front tires. I have seen them on a few RC10's here and there, and I thought they must be a rare item? I have never seen ANY for sale anywhere until today.

Re: Project RC10 Championship Edition!
I received a set of those tires on an ebay find once; never seen them before. I haven't had a chance to try them out but, seeing your post has me curious now, think I'll fit them to a runner next time and see what they'll do. Thanks Joey.

Re: Project RC10 Championship Edition!
You're welcome Doug. I would love to find matching rear tires in the same waffle pattern.
