RC10 Worlds Car RE-RE - Disappointed

I know this topic has been beat to death but holy crap!

I had an original RC10 Worlds Car and stupidly I sold it for cheap about 8 years ago. Feeling nostalgic I tracked down an unbuilt re-re. I started the assembly yesterday and am seriously disappointed with the quality of the kit. The original goal was to fool around in the MOD class at the local track but I'm afraid it'll break the first time out. Have all Team Associated kit's become this flimsy? Maybe I've spoiled by having most recently been running an ST-RR truggy? Was the original kit this poor and I just don't remember?

The original was better in a few places, unfortunately they are key areas.

the aluminum screws are poor, ie, not really aircraft screws, some cheap facsimile. So swap them out for something better.
the transmission has issues with a poor idler/case tolerance and poor quality control on the top shaft machining. going to a 6565 case, and correct idler would correct the trans issues, as long as the top shaft is ok. if not, it needs to be replaced also.
the cvd's are too short by a smidge. You can rearrange the blue washer to sit inside the hub, and make sure your droop is adjusted to keep the bone engaged throughout the suspension travel as well as adjust your camber.

the rest is equivalent.

The trans is definitely concerning. The balls in the diff don't roll smoothly and everything is super tight in the case.


Is the rear bulkhead thinner? I don't remember the rear battery retention area being so flimsy. Also don't remember the motor plate blocking the slots at the rear of the chassis. The original kit also used button head screws in a few places. My memory could be a little fuzzy but overall it just seems like everything is a little thinner and cheaper. OH, and the springs not being coated reminds me of a cheapo Toys-R-Us RC.

no, bulkhead is about the same overall. they adjusted the battery box however to fit a lipo, basically trimmed the bottom off.

the silver springs have been around forever, standard kit parts, no real change there. the metal is extremely close to the originals as well as the plastics, so it's probably just your recollection and comparing to newer things.

I see you're in Chalfont, PA. I live in Northern NJ, but my company is in Doylestown. What are the good hobby shops around here??

Scr8p and I drive to north jersey to crispy critters to run on clay indoor offroad. small track but nice setup and nice guys.

there is trains n lanes in easton which is a rather large shop with slot tracks. carpet offroad upstairs.

there was another good indoor track that i think recently closed in south jersey. in central jersey there is rc car world which is pretty neat, although in a kinda weird location with 4 tracks, indoor onroad carpet, offroad carpet, drift and a little track, for small scale.

there are a couple other options further west but haven't been there.

About a mile and a half up the road from my house is the Dirt Runners track at the Jefferson Township HS. I've yet to go to crispy.
