B4 front hex conversion using non-Associated parts

Post by adam lancia »

I swear I searched and couldn't find it. I know there's a thread that shows how to convert a B4 to 12mm hexes up front using non-Associated (easy to find) parts but I can't find it. I had it saved on my last phone but it died 😔

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Traxxas parts would be the easiest to get. The 2WD Slash/Rustler/Stampede (Bandit uses 1/8" hinge pins) can be modified to fit lots of cars. They are plenty strong, should you need to clearance them.

If you don't like the axles and separate hex, the newer Associated one piece axles can be used with some 3X5mm shims.

So the one piece axles would work with the Traxxas parts? Do you happen to know which specific part numbers I should be looking for?

Thanks!

Not off hand (I'm at work), but they are the regular 2WD truck parts

This is a AE axle in a Traxxas carrier.

That helps. I'll do some web scrounging and see what I come up with.

Thanks!

I’ve got 1 complete custom hex conversion in the BST section. There’s a video showing how to build it.

Do you know if the Traxxas axle carriers fit the B4 c-hubs?

I have adapted the smaller (5X8) bearing type. They are only used on the brushed Bandit buggy (VXL's use the larger one) now. Rustlers and Stampedes also used them in the past.

The two sizes are interchangeable on Traxxas carriers but I haven't tried the larger type in B4 carriers.

I don't remember doing much more than reaming the kingpin holes to the larger B4 size.

Gotcha, thanks! It'll be a trial and (hopefully not) error thing some time down the road. I'll post my findings, whenever that happens.

I know that some have adapted it to older models. But I don't know if the B4 hinge pin is comparable.

Got it. So is it in fact that B3 and B4 different size pins?

I know that original RC10, 10T, T2, and GT all had larger hinge pins than the B4. I think that the B2 and B3 had the larger ones as well.

So, I’m using the bigger Traxxas steering blocks with B4 caster blocks. There is a clearance issue at the bottom of the c-block when turning the wheels inside, and it cuts the turning radius by a quarter or more.
