Kyosho Big Brute

Post by Dangeruss »

In 1987 Kyosho released the Big Brute, their first of five (Big Brute, Big Boss, Double Dare, Hi-Rider, USA-1) 1/10 2wd electric monster trucks built on this platform. Constructed primarily out of plastic the Big Brute rode on a deeply molded tub chassis complete with top cover to keep the electronics safe from debris. A pair of split case gearbox housings bolted to the chassis and were supported by a quartet of braces that tied the structures together. Attached to the cases was a 4-wheel, double a-arm, independent suspension system sporting a mirrored design that allowed the truck to use the same components at all four corners. The suspension incorporated no less than six adjustable tie rods, four out back to stabilize the rear knuckles and two up front leading to the Kimbrough style servo saver. Bright red plastic shock towers doubled as body mounts and stood high above the chassis holding a single plastic bodied coilover friction shock for each wheel. A red plastic transverse battery mount bolted into a cavity across the center of the trucks chassis from underneath, secured by two red plastic side guards while an oversized white brush guard protected the front. A tubular style plastic cage kept the rear mounted motor out of harms way and allowed it to power the three-gear bevel differential equipped transmission, dog eared plastic driveshafts, and metal axle shafts that lead to the high offset three-piece white nylon 2.2 truck wheels rolling on 5.4 inch tall Bridgestone monster truck tires. A highly detailed clear lexan Toyota truck body with chrome bumpers, grille and off-road lights perched atop a black triple tube roll bar finished off the kit which was sold unassembled with bushings, a mechanical speed controller, and Lemans 05 Stock motor, less radio:
