In 1990 Kyosho introduced their Scale Series of 1/10 electric 2wd on-road cars. The series was originally released in ten different models divided into two categories based on the chassis:
Street Cars: Included a Porsche 911, Ferrari Testarossa, Lamborghini Countach, Corvette ZR-1 and Nissan 300ZX. Each of the highly detailed clear lexan bodies was mounted over an Ultima II chassis with its Kelron injection molded main plate and four-wheel independent lower a-arm/adjustable camber link suspension sporting aluminum shock towers holding aluminum capped, oil-filled, plastic body coilover shocks. The plastic upper deck sandwiched a twin bellcrank steering system with built-in servo saver and adjustable tie rods to height adjustable hubs and akerman adjustable knuckles. Just reward the chassis accommodated transverse stick and saddle battery mounting while out back and aluminum motor plate and rear guard were attached to a 48-pitch transmission that housed a bevel gear differential outputting to steel dogbones. Each unassembled kit received wheels styled to their application and wrapped in 320/35/20 Bridgestone Potenza radial pattern rubber tires while all versions would come with, bushings, a mechanical speed controller and LeMans Stock 05 motor, less radio.
Race Cars: Included a Mclaren F-1, Toyota Group C, Penske PC-19 Nissan Group C and Ferrari F1. The race cars received an all new Kelron Formula 1 style chassis assembly consisting of an injection molded main plate that held a realistically molded four-wheel, double a-arm suspension system with inboard mounted aluminum bodied, oil-filled, coilover shocks for each corner. The front suspension featured bulkheads tied together by an o-ring mimicking Schumachers “Crash Back” system to protect the front end from damage while steering was handed by a single bellcrank with a built-in servo saver and long adjustable tie rods. Electronics were held midship and attached to a plastic upper deck that held the transverse mounted battery in place as well. Just behind that was the mid mounted motor driving a laydown style sealed transmission. The exterior of the case served as mounting points for the rear suspension while inside was a bevel gear differential driving a pair of steel dogbones. Wheels where specific to each model but all versions, sold as unassembled kits, would include a set of Goodyear Eagle rubber racing slicks, bushings, mechanical speed controller, Outlaw Stock MEGA Motor and highly detailed lexan body and wing, less radio.
Kyosho would also release a Ferrari F40, available as a 2wd on the Ultima II chassis or as a 4wd on the Optima Mid Chassis, the latter also being used for a 4wd Nissan Skyline GT-R.
