This is a vintage 1987 Kyosho Ultima loaded with all the popular upgrades from the 1980s. Getting a fully vintage modified Kyosho Ultima in pristine condition was a rare find. Consider this an authentic "World Spec" Ultima driven by Kyosho drivers (aside from the Optima body and wing) at the 1987 IFMAR World Championships.
Thankfully, the owner kept all the upgrade advertisements organized in a binder. I will try to upload later. The anodized and thicker chassis, thick graphite shock towers, stiffer upper plate, rear universals, and ball differential were noticeable improvements. I think the steering has been upgraded, but I can't confirm how it is different from the original. Bonus steel rims with the IFMAR winning block tires round out this shelf display. The IFMAR Winning Medallion and sticker (not shown) was a nice addition back then. More companies should put these thoughtful items in the kit as memorabilia.
I have the JJ Ultima, and have an original mint Ultima, and I admire the peppermint World Spec buggy they debuted recently (looks really amazing)...but this by far is my favorite. It captures the spirit of the 1980s AND the true driving potential of the Ultima. Looks modern even by today's standards. I can see this Ultima version beating out the RC10 back in the day.
Vintage tribute to Japan's first 2WD IFMAR World Champion victory buggy.
