In 1986 Tamiya released an updated version of their Hotshot 1/10 4wd electric off-road buggy, called the Supershot. Using the same two-piece ABS clamshell chassis and four-wheel independent suspension system with long ball joint double a-arms up front and shorter double a-arms out back, albeit with the red plastic uprights and hub carriers replaced by black version. Also replaced was the Hotshot's monoshock dampening system as the Supershot used a more traditional single yellow plastic bodied oil-filled coilover shock with clip in spring spacers at each corner. The front shocks hung from aluminum towers in place of the Hotshot's front anti-sway bar and mounts while the rear shocks were supported by a single aluminum tower situated behind the still present rear anti-sway bar. Steering would remain via adjustable tie rods with spherical ends mounted directly to a servo saver and placed front of a revised mechanical speed controller, along with the radio gear, inside the mechanism box of the chassis just forward of the externally mounted transverse bottom loaded battery secured by a fiberglass plate. The front and rear bevel gear differentials connected by a hex-ended propshaft remained unchanged, though the bearing equipped output shafts would drive thinner diameter dogbones connected to triangle shaped adapters that located the single piece gold plated plastic phone dial wheels sporting new 12.50-20 Super Gripper R 4X4 rear tires and 9.80-20 Supper Gripper F 4X4 front tires. Distinguishing the Supershot was a new single seat lexan body and bolt-on lexan wing, as well as a full length plastic underguard, external plastic roll cage, large front bumper, side battery guards, mechanical speed controller, Tamiya Technipower RX-540SD motor, full bearings, and "Terrible" Tony Atkins driver figure:
