Post by Dangeruss »

Marketing the idea that you have to spend money to save money Tamiya offered a mail in rebate that allowed purchasers of either a Blackfoot or Super G the opportunity to buy a $25 Ni-Cad battery pack for just $10 in this ad from 1989:

Based on the Frog 2wd buggy, red ABS plastic space frame chassis, four-wheel independent suspension system with small front upper and lower control arms and large rear trailing arms. Taller and wider front uprights, tall plastic shock tower and extended length undampened coilover shocks up front with horizontally mounted undampened coilover shocks in the rear. Z-bend adjustable tie rods, ballcups, and direct mount servo saver. Electronics placed under a molded plastic cover above the The bottom loading transverse mounted battery. 540 powered pinion, counter, and bevel gear differential inside a metal side plated plastic transmission housing. Metal dog bones covered by rubber boots with 4.8in. diameter rubber All Traction Utility tires on single piece yellow plastic wheels. Highly detailed molded plastic Ford F-150 body with chrome grille, and bumpers as well as a bed mounted roll bar, lights, large front brushguard, bushings, mechanical speed controller, Mabushi RS540 motor and Ramblin Ron Driver figure, all included in the unassembled kit.

Super G: 1/10 2wd electric off-road buggy released in 1989. Evolution of the Grasshoper II. Used the same molded ABS plastic tub featuring integrated shock towers, though now featuring a full set of yellow oil-filled plastic bodied CVA coilover shocks. Long front swingarms, z-bend tie rods, ballcups, and direct mount servo saver steering system. Electronics mounted in the center of the tub above the bottom loaded longitudinally mounted battery. Hornet style pivoting rear mounts attached to molded rigid axle housing with bolt on shock mounts that incased the pinion, spur, bevel gear differential with metal axles powered by a 540 motor. Wide wheel adapters, 12.5-20 Super Gripper 4x4 Racing rear tires, Rib Spiked Super Gripper Racing fronts and single piece plastic phone dial wheels from the Wild One buggy, molded in bright yellow.
