Questions about motors, brushes, etc...

In my last r/c lot that I bought from ebay, I got a Reedy Series Modified Mr. Y's motor, does anyone have any info on these motors??

Also, I got two motors that left me scratching my head, one seems to be a Trinity Green machine, and on the shaft side, it says, Roar stock, but the brushes are stand up brushes, what gives??

Another motor with the same stand up brush set up, was a CKW secret weapon, the same thing, on the shaft side it says ROAR 91 Stock?

I was under the impression that only modified motors, wore the stand up brushes and the stockers wore the lay downs.

any info on these motors would be greatly appreciated

I have a 2nd gen GM2. I'll look at it at home, but yes, in most cases, the mod motors were standup brushes, the stock were laydown, but its not impossible to swap over an endbell.

I'll have to go back and research the "MR" series. Im sure someone on here has the full list,
(I always thought the "MR ?" would be cool!)

There was a time when all motors were stand up and laydown brushes didn't exist, in the history of motors laydown stock motors are relatively new. In the early 90s all stock motors were standup, usually running between 34 and 44 degrees advance on a stock motor.

Yep, all the old stuff is stand up brushes as far as I know.

ROAR 91 (1991) was a set of rules that required a locked commutator to armature, at 24 degrees of timing. ROAR Stock would be before 1991. Both were 27 turn at 24 degrees of timing, wire size and length rules too.

Well supposedly anyway. Before ROAR 91 you could ‘crank’ more than 24 degrees timing into the motor, making it faster. The sucker wouldn’t last very long, would get hot and burn brushes up, but boy would it fly for a while.

Laydown brushes were, I’m not sure, first available somewhere around ’93 or so???

WOa the Reedy Mr. Y is a 10t Triple, It came on an LXT with a Tekin Speed Star, are these ESCs any good??
