Hot Trick Restoration

Post by Woobie »

A little sneak peek for those who like the Hot Trick Stuff: What you are looking at, is a mangled up RC10 aluminum oval chassis, that I am putting back together.

When I got it, the guy who had it, was making it into a nitro runner, but I pretty much ripped everything off when I got it, and started over.

Among the highlights, is the Trackmaster direct drive gearbox, Hot Trick aluminum chassis/ rear shock mount/ rear arms/ front arms/ steering kit/ front shock mount/ speed controller mounting plate.....Associated shocks with nice new MIP bodies, etc.

Still got a little work to do, but she is coming along nicely. This chassis is super hard to find, so I was happy to see it pop up for sale, new or not!

At what point did Hot Trick stuff become scarce (when did they go out of business)?
I was in the hobby in '89 and racing by '91 and never saw... more accurately, don't remember, one HT part on a car. I saw them on the shelf occasionally, buried under other stuff.

This chassis you have is really cool and has some design elements that appear to be unique to this day (such as holding hinge pins with washers, secured by screws!).
Is it heavy?
Bought my first RC10 in 1989

I am not entirely certain when Hot Trick went out of business, but if they were not done by 89, they were certainly on their way out. I have yet to get any definitive information on the company's history, with the exception of that which I could cull from the couple catalogs I have.

I know that Bill Steele was the President and founder, and I have searched the internet for ages, trying to find some contact info. There is also mention of a couple other people by name in the paper work, that again, I could not find any info about.

I do not know if cult following would be choice words for describing the Hot Trick phenomenon, but for me, it is definately the uniqueness (is that proper terminology?) that is attractive to me.

The fully converted cars are indeed quite heavy. I have an old Yokomo Dogfighter with all the HT parts, and it is ridiculously heavy. An M3 Bradley body would be better suited, rather than a car body for this monster.

Scott, It is either Glenn Kulsik (not sure if I spelled his name right) or the guy that owns/operates Lightning Hobbies (cannot remember his name).

I am surprised that you did not know about that, since he has your stuff listed.... looks like he got the pics from TC.

Nice score! You can touch up the minor scratches with a red Sharpie... it matches the anodization good.

Thanks Jay and Ed.....

Umm, not really sure what to think. I kind of pay to have those pictures exclusively in my showroom on TC, being that I own them and stuff, lol.
