TA02 Datsun 240z rally car
I started this project with a pile of old TA02 parts originally from a Promarkt Mercedes Benz C class. I then collected some new bearings, Hummer parts, which are exactly the same except they come in black, and replaced a few worn parts, so I now have basically a new car. I had a couple hop up parts including carbon shock towers from my parking lot racing days so they went on too.
The body is from ABC Hobby
For now I'm using the stock shocks but alloys are coming. The wheels are Tamiya, kinda remind me of OZ racing wheels. They are shod in Tamiya rally block tires. The motor is a simple Sport Tuned for now.

Coming soon from HPI (probably were the folks contracted to do the car for ABC Hobby anyway).
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

That HPI body is nice! From the side view it looks more scale than the ABC Hobby. Will have to get one for an on road version.
You can find the ABC Hobby body on Ebay, think I found mine at RCmart.

ABC Hobby is a Japanese RC company.bearrickster wrote:What is ABC hobby?mrlexan wrote:Coming soon from HPI (probably were the folks contracted to do the car for ABC Hobby anyway).
I just checked on that HPI and it's a kit called "cup racer" It's about the size of a Tamiya mini chassis.

Re: TA02 Datsun 240z rally car
The HPI kit looks awesome, there is a range of super detailed scale bodies coming, and it has some leaps forwards in technology from the looks, the front shocks are laid out revo style for body height fitting on the low front shells
* HPI ‘True Ten’ design – radio-control car models closer to scale than ever before!
* Classic sports car and racer bodyshells that inspired generations of car fans
* Moulded chrome details such as windscreen wipers, mirrors, bumpers, exhaust pipes and more.
* Multiple width adjustments to fit huge range of future bodyshells:
o Hub/upright inserts
o Variable wheel hex adapters (0mm & 4mm)
o Hex adapter inserts (1mm & 2mm)
o Different offset wheels (0mm, 3mm, 6mm)
* Huge variety of body post locations to suit many different shapes of bodyshells
* Nearly infinite body post height adjustment to get perfect scale appearance
* True Ten bodies from HPI will feature chrome accents such as mirrors, exhaust, bumpers, etc.
* Any M-class body will fit (wheelbase 225mm or 210mm)
* Inboard front shocks allow fitting of future low-profile bodies
* Disc brake/rotor mounts (non-functional) for future cool upgrade
* Fits standard RC electronics for easy component choices
The Trueno looks amazing as well.

Re: TA02 Datsun 240z rally car
Cool 240z project!
That new HPI platform looks promising. Hopefully they get some cool classic bodies for it. I wish they'd make their Countach and Pantera bodies in something besides 200mm nitro sized. But, then I'd want to buy another car. If they come out with a Lamborghini Miura, or a Ferrari 288 GTO, or any classic Lambo or Ferrari, I'll probably have to get one.

Re: TA02 Datsun 240z rally car
Oh, and the Tamiya F201 had the lay down shocks long before the Revo. Nice to see that set up in another on road car, it did work well on the F201.

Re: TA02 Datsun 240z rally car
Before this turns into a HPI thread...
My goal was to make a privateer, club rally racer. I found quite a few old school Datsun rally cars online.
After some black paint and a few decals.
I also cut the grill out so I can add lights.

Outstanding build! I love that shell, now I know what I'm doing with my TA02.

Re: TA02 Datsun 240z rally car
Thanks fellas.
I'm going to use a combination of these,
to make lights in the grill like this:
Still need to add the rest of the decals and maybe a driver figure. I started on making a perch for the lights out of plastruct using the original bumper. It should all look like one piece when finished.
I covered it in diamond plate and now it just needs paint and the lights installed.
