Not to go too off topic, but do mot of you guys run gear covers on your race machines? I never did on my xxx-t mf, and never had a problem. hell none of my gas rc's even have them like the RC10GT. I just always hated having to pull the cover off to change a pinion, or if I wanted to do motor maintence, cut the comm, and check the brushes between heats.

I always ran covers on my electric racers, it's only two screws... I ran them mostly as a courtesy to turn marshals, but also why risk a pebble, e-clip, body clip etc. from ending your run. During pre-race track inspection walkarounds I was amazed at the amount of parts that littered the track. I don't think I've ever had to buy new body clips. And I have found e-clips and more stuck to the motor can after a race...

Nitro racing, well that's a different world altogether. 8)

Heh yeah I know its only 2 screws, but when your getting off the track you got to unsolder the battery, tray it, get your other pack on the charger, do an inspection of the car yada yada yada. Time is not always there for those 2 screws. :D I dunno, but I never had anything strip a gear out, but Im not saying it cant happen.

When I raced offroad (1995-1999) it was always: Return transponder, park car, turn marshal, do the battery drill/maintenance/tires/motor work/shock tuning/look at the board/BS with other racers, etc and then sit around for an hour + waiting for all the other heats and classes to run... those two screws never were an issue... :P

Of course the whole "spend eight hours at the track to race a total of sixteen minutes per class (three heats and a main)" thing got old after a while. Ah, the days of four minute runs...

i recently bought a chassis lot because it had some rpm front widearms and a mip tranny, bonus was a pink (but well used) chassis and nose plate. i put it together today from bits and pieces, had to cut the noseplate to rc10t specs, but i did a pretty good job with it. i broke one of my rules and took some shocks off a mostly completed project because i didnt have any spare truck fronts. i'll find a used set and strip/polish them to match the motorplate and nose brace tubes. the body is just a placeholder, but it kinda looks cool on it imo.

anyway, the stinky pinky:

i'm definitely gonna run it. i'm considering using a lipo/brushless setup, got some more reading on it before i commit.

whaddya think?

one of the former race cars I picked up had a neat idea. The 2 gear cover screws were put in backwards (screw head on the motor side of the motor plate), then the gear cover was installed, then 2 pieces of fuel tubing were placed over the threads holding the cover in place. Sure seems like it worked good.
