Hakko solder station

Post by Brandon G »

I've been using a very good Hakko soldering iron (pencil type) for a while now, and it works very well for light use. Never had quite the nuts to do battery packs though.

So, I decided to jump into the Hakko soldering station they have listed on Hakko USA (I believe the 936 is the model). Got it shipped to the house for $79. Even comes with an Upgrade decal set already applied. Plugged it in the other day to give her a spin, and all I can say is WOW! This dude is one hot SOB! I was unsoldering and trying to put a new 14ga wire in a GTX the other day, and I think I was just pissing it off with my other iron. I had it soldered in and looking good in less than 5 seconds with this new one. What a difference. I will never waste my time with subpar irons ever again. It has temp control on it as well.
If you are looking for a station, give this one a look. Definetely worth the $.

Price is now about $93 for that model. Which tip did you get 11, 12 or 13? There was 1 with flames, green for $89.

The RC version came with 2 tips, not exactly sure which they are. I got mine last week, the price on the main page was $89, but the magazines said $79 + free shipping. When I put the thing in my shopping cart, it came up $79. If they changed their price, you may be able to argue them into the better deal.

I've been planning on getting one too, not sure why the online price doesnt match their advertisements though.
I even added one to my cart and was still saying $89. Looks like I will have to call them.

Was there a coupon code in the magazine maybe?

Functionally the Hakko is a beast, quick heat up, can go crazy hot, I really like the light cycling on and off so you can tell it’s up to temp. But it has an external rather heavy controller compared to the once mighty and lightweight Ungar. Not as good for packing on race day.

One of my ‘one of these days’ projects is to see if a Hakko wand could be wired to the Ungar control unit for traveling.

I have the large tip 936-13 model. Seems fine for general motor, esc, and battery pack use. Need to pick up a smaller tip in case I need to do any circuit board or other delicate stuff.

No, I just hit the tag to put it in my shopping cart, and the price automatically adjusted when I looked at in the cart?

I breezed through a battery pack last night. My god, why didn't I get one of these sooner. I definetely like it now.

I too will need to get a smaller tip eventually.

I've had a 936 for several years now, and it is probably one of the best r/c purchases I have made. Couldn't be happier with it. I used to work at a car stereo shop that had one, thats what made me buy one. Def a good iron.

I know this is not the solder station you speak of but just to give you all another choice when looking to buy a new station is the LRP. I picked one up a few months ago and this thing is the pimp dadddy of soldering stations. It goes from cold to melt your skins is seconds. It has a idle setting you can pre set to what ever temp you want. You can even set the time it takes to go to idle.It also runs off of 110 or 240. I have never used the hakko station but i here good things. I will probably end up with one of them too.You see i have a addiction.Pause (standup) Helllo my name is Chad and iam a RC Junkie

Finally stopped procrastinating and ordered the 936. I got the 936-12 model, am I going to be ok with the 12 or should I have gotten the 13 larger version? Just wondered what anyone personal experiences are, I probably will use it on batteries and motors not any circuit board stuff.
