I've never been all that savvy with computers, just picked up a few things from my years at Clodtalk and other forums. I'm getting a little better now that I'm using a computer everyday, but I really am more of a hands on, analog kind of guy.

Nothing wrong with analog. It is smoother than digital anyway :D

Back when I was in college taking automotive courses. Things were easy when you'd open up something and could follow from A to Z the power flow. Once we had a basic understanding of that, they pulled out the majik boxes where power is input through plug A and exits slot Z magically transformed. Right about then is when the  went off and a :?: appeared above my head.

The real fun was that some of the electronics back then had no test procedure to determine whether they were dead or alive. You had to test out multiple other systems to remove them from the list of possible causes and zero in on the culprit.

Cars have come a long way. Now those boxes will tell you everything you wanted to know about a car, but were afraid to ask. Till it goes out

Off topic, but car related.

I was doing a tune-up on a new Subaru. The way we were taught to do them was to basically grab the plug wires and yank them all out, no replacing one at a time like a shade tree bumpkin. This, of course, requires one to know the firing order of engines. There are only two (for a 4 banger ), both of which escape me at the moment, but at the time I was quite familiar with. So anyway, I remove all the old and install all the new, guess what, the car won't start. Hmm, the firing order must be wrong, redo the wires to the other known combination, car still won't start. Hmm, maybe I was mistaken with the first set-up, rewire - no start. Refer to all text books to confirm known firing orders, retry both known firing order - no start. Finally, I concede defeat and go find the instructor, explaining what I've gone through to figure out the problem for myself. We walk back to the car, the instructor tries both combinations to no avail (I'm grinning really big at this point! LOL ). Finally, he tries something that he'd heard about, a "new" firing order. He flip-flopped the wires and the car fires right up. Then he reaches down in to be sure the wires are tight and got bit! LOL We all had a good chuckle on that one, since he'd been doing this for a good number of years and had his own repair shop outside of his being an instructor. He was also on Gale Bank's pit crew when he set a speed record in '84 at Bonneville.

My dads cousin use to pull one plug wire from a distributor and grab the nub or stick a screw driver in it if it was female. He would then stand on the bumper to isolate himself to the vehicle not the Earth. Then he would take his other hand and shoot sparks out to the fender well or intake, where ever he could get a ground. And if you were standing near him, guess what, you were ground too. I hated him for that but I was jsut a kid last time I saw him do that.

And don't get me started on the capacitors my dad and his friends use to toss us as kids.

DAYUM that's mean! LOL The instructors told stories of jumping ignition wires to the car bodies when they'd go cruising. Anyone who'd touch the car would get a good zapping! Another favorite was to run the car overly rich and put a spark plug in the tailpipe with a switch - hit the switch, instant flame thrower!

No wonder cruising has been outlawed! Our parents ruined it for us! LOL

Yeah, they hosed it up good. But what some of the kids are doing today is insane. I think they call it "draggin"? When I was in high school, draggin meant you and a buddy were going nose to nose down the 1/8 in front of the high school.

Now, they weld titanium and other metals to the frame and drop it to the road. Looks awesome but I would not want to get caught doing it by the coppers.

What concerns me more are the idiots who street race. At least once a month there's something in the news about one of these mental midgets who'd either killed themselves or someone else. Nothing like being 17 years old and getting prosecuted for manslaughter.

That's been going on since the inception of hydraulics and low riders. The current fad is probably from the kids watching reruns of CHiP's on A&E and copying! LOL

It's funny how history repeats its self. I use to love watching CHIPS when I was a kid. That seems like such a long time ago. Oh, it was a long time ago :(

But just how far back can you go? I'm talking ones you actually watched, not just knew existed.

Hardcastle and McKormick
Knight Rider

Gilligan's Island
Kung Fu
Star Trek (the original 0 hated it, but was better than doing homework! LOL )
The Addam's family
I Love Lucy
Green Acres

The one's I get goofy looks for are talk show hosts. My mother liked the Oprah's of her time, so I grew up watching those. Even people my age don't even know them.

Phil Donahue (No, NOT Dr. Phil! )
Mike Douglas
Merv Griffin
Virginia Graham

I remember watching new episodes of CHIPS. But it does not go back much further than that. My dad was a big MASH fan. I remember watching the final episode thinking, thank God it's over  Now I watch the reruns.

Knight rider, I was there from the first episode. As well as Miami Vice and Cheers and Night Court. I was born in '73 so most of the 70's shows are beyond me. But I remember most of the 80's. Manimal was a favorite, Remington Steele was OK.

I do remember watching a show, the intro's had a red (i think?) light bulb swinging in a dark room. Anyway, I remember one episode where the guy was attacked by his kids army men in the garage. I wish I could get ahold of a copy of that or just remember the name of the show. Anyone remember that one.

And who can forget the man eating sofa in "Friday's".
Gotta love the classics.

Don't look now, Dorothy, but we've long since moved passed log in problems! LMAO!! It's so rare we stray from topic like this.

I became a gleam in my fathers eye on my mothers birthday back in the mid 60's. While I don't have total recall of what I watched, I remember most things back to about 2 years old. Curled up in moms lap in the rocking chair watching All My Children - which, by the way, all the same actors and characters are still on! LOL We had our ritual of one or two soaps, and the talk shows of the day. Back in those day, we had real cartoons, with story lines, and plot, and long established characters, as opposed to the 1/2 hour commercial advertisements for toys, video games, and such, of todays drivel.

You named off some decent oldies there. Forgot about Remmy Steele, that was a pretty cute show. How about Hart to Hart? OOh!! OOH!! Get Smart!!! That was one of my favorites! Did you ever watch Police Squad? It was a short lived series (maybe 6 episodes ) that was essentially a take off of Get Smart and starred Leslie Neilson of The Naked Gun movie series, again taking off of Police Squad. I've always loved humor like that and can still almost quote lines from the movie Airplane.

Anything with Leslie rocks. I thought Police Squad did more that 6 episode though. I never caught them running, only during Comedy Central marathons.
