I thought the ROAR time line was going to be the answer to everything until I saw that 1200, 1400, 1500 & 1700 batteries were all approved in 1992, so not much use for finding release dates :(

I raced with SCR 1400's in 92 for sure, perhaps also in 91. Before that were only SCR 1200s. SCE's in 1700-1800? They were around at the same time as the SCR 1400 but no one in 2WD used the SCE's. Some 4WD's did especially modifieds that couldn't make race time on SCRs. The SCR's could discharge at more amps and were the better battery. So if you could make the time on those that's what you ran. I have two packs of 1400s, and about 4 or 5 1200s and they all still work today which is amazing. :) Maybe not quite as well as they used to but they do work quite well. I don't know anything about what happened after that as the nitro cars/truck came out and they caused the death of 95% of the clubs in Australia including all the ones I raced at.

I also have a number 1400 scr's and 1700sce's that are still running very well. As long as you take care of them, they'll last. I use a victor iq2 which does a very nice job on the nicads. Looking in my bin, I still have 30 new sce cells that I'm sure will work if I ever decide to build them.

Can anybody identify these cells? They're 1700mah and the label is blue, kind of like the tan label of the RC2000 cell. I'm guessing they are the last version of the 1700 that came out right before the RC2000 cells. The box is sealed so I don't want to open it up.

Here is my small contribution to this timeline

I'm sure that in march 1990 I was racing with sanyo 1200scr (red) and 1700sce(yellow)

I can also add that 1400scr and 1800sce were not available in 1990

In 1992 the new Panasonic 1900 purple elements were starting to appear in scene, being the rule in 1993. I totally abandoned racing in september 1993 as I started my engineering studies at university, so I never had them. I suppose that sanyo updated his capacities later as panasonic were the one and only offering 1900mah in 1992.

sanyo scrc sounds familiar to me , but never had one in my hands, so surely they were arriving to scene in 1993

hope this helps to this timeline
