Oops sorry, totally missed this.

What happens often is that the barrel nut will come loose and then you end up stripping off the 5 plastic protrusions on the inside of the wheel that hold the widener in place. I have thought about the TTR set up but do not want locked in the rear on my race chassis do to it causes more push in turns. I do have my 4WS locked in the rear, better in the snow :D I am planning on going with the newer type wideners were you end up drilling 5 holes in the rim. CPE, Tweaked and RC mayhem build these. My friend that races for Tweaked says that he has never had a problem with this setup. How many Clods do you have and are there any pictures of them in this forum?

Oh yeah, the TTR wideners. I meant the TTR CVDs, they widen your truck too. You can get those for front and back and they are extended at the end by 1/4" on each side. No adapters or other parts needed. I run the CVDs up front on my other Clod, and straight axles in the back, they have the same spacing, of course you could put the CVDs in back too for 4ws. These here:
http://www.thundertechracing.com/cvd1.htm

The 5 hole wideners were actually the first style I ever saw. I can't remember who originally came up with that design.

Right now I'm down to 2 Clods. My other Clod is in this thread:

And it looks like this:

A Boyer tube chassis, that is as nice as they get. How does it run/handle? I see that you use the TTR ball diff, how do you like that? Have you had any problems with dependability running a ball diff? How is the adjustability on them? I was thinking about getting one myself. Sorry for all the questions !

Here is a pic of my Powers Race clod

I often visit and purchase from these sites:

MelvinsArmy I am sure can add another one two that I may have missed.

No Mothers or Nevr-Dull has touched those gear boxes or rims. They're grimey, not shiny. They aren't for blinging, they're for beating!

Nice Powers! I always loved those chassis, such a great design.
The Boyer chassis is as smooth as butter. It handles great, John has the suspension geometry down. The ball diffs are good. I don't race on a regular basis, so the differences are probably totally lost on me, but I have had no durability issues. I haven't adjusted them since I installed them, I can't remember what the instruction sheet said as far as adjustments.

vintage racer, yeah there are a lot of aftermarket Clod chassis available. ESP, Powers, Boyer, New Era, CPE, etc, etc. Racers, bashers, crawlers, just about anything you can imagine.

Bill, the guy who owns this site is a super Clodbuster freak. And a regular freak too. He runs Clodtalk, that's where Hoopty and I met and got Bill to start RC10talk for us. Clodtalk.com is a great message board, like this one, that caters just to monster trucks, mostly Clods. Bill also runs http://www.clodparts.com which is a great resource for just about everything that has been made, or is currently being made for the Clodbuster. Just go through the manufactures section, you'll find all kinds of stuff. You don't even need a Clod kit to build a Clodbuster. The only Tamiya parts on my Boyer are the tires, counter gears and counter gear shafts. Everything else is aftermarket.

Clodtalk is a great forum.

I actually tried registering within the past couple of days on Clodtalk, I was given a message that said something like, a moderater will review your information and send you an email . I have heard nothing back as of yet. Maybe I should try re registering.

Clodparts is also a great site, I always enjoy looking at the old Clodbuster review section reading all of the vintage articals on testing and new parts for that time.

I actually own a 1991 issue of RC car racer that has the original test with the Clodbuster Vs USA-1. I am sure I have read that test at least a dozen times. I was 11 years old when I bought it off the magazine stand.

Might take a few days. We do the same thing over here, it keeps the spammers and bots or whatever they're called out. Early on we got flooded by them, it was nasty. You can always PM Bill on here too, or Halgar, he's also a mod over on Clodtalk.

I have that issue of RCCA too, had it since new. That's how I ended up buying a USA-1 back in the day over a Clod. I always wanted a Clod, then the USA-1 comes out and RCCA made it sound better, so I got one. Big mistake. I sold it within about a month. I didn't get my first Clod until probably 2002 or so. Wish I had gone with one over the USA-1 way back when. When I decided it was time to get a Clod finally, the Juggernaut 2 had just come out and I got one of those, I think it was 2000 or 2001, can't remember exactly. Those are fine trucks too. Not long after I finally got a Clod. I wish I still had one of my Juggernauts, I keep waiting for one of my old ones to pop up on ebay, but no luck.

That's looking sweet! Better get a runner body for it, you wouldn't want to destroy that nice body out on the track.

Unfortunately it's looking like I'm going to have to sit this year's vnats out. Looks like I'll be in Europe, getting back at the end of that weekend. Still haven't hammered out all the details yet, but that's how it's looking now. Might be a 2011 race debut for this truck.

yeah I have a lid planned for it- putting together a few projects right now.... all the lids will be done last :)

Aww man, I know you really dig the heavy metal class and looking forward to racing. Compared to a bear or some other lighter more nible trucks- I was looking forward to a good Clod showing!!!!

Yeah, I was super stoked about racing this truck. Clods really are my favorite r/c platform. I've got a good excuse though, I'm scheduled for a solo exhibition that will open in Prague the week before the race, then I'll travel around a bit after that. Just one of those things where timing doesn't work out for the toys. I think Hoopty was going to put a Clod together for this year, hopefully a few others will too.

budhatrain - The dual rate springs look good on your truck. It looks like your going to run a single servo system, maybe this is must? do to the rules in the "heavy metal" race?

you know I am not really sure. I am gonna guess and say that your allowed to do either 4ws or 2ws as long as it was something you could have done back in the day. I am almost positive within the spirit of the rules you would be able to do any modification that could have been done back then. I know they want to keep the motors stock... That's why I chose the route of the Zilla 2 platform because it was a pre '94 chassis. I do question the TTR cvd's???? If you can get your hands on them- what an upgrade.

I do wanna say that you can run a brushless and lipo setup too, keeping the motor to 17.5- which I am not gonna do for this truck, I already dumped recently a heap of cash in the CPE clod I have with its dual brushless setup.

There is a thread around here that was discussing some of that called- VONATS Entry Discussion- or something like that

The spring setup I have is real stiff- I can literally bounce the clod off the ground. I have a softer spring to put in, I am gonna change the oil and then enlarge the breather holes in the rim itself

As far as steering, I haven't decided yet- I know I can shave a little off the steering stops in the front to get more angle- I have not committed one way yet

MAN I was really looking forward to Hawaiian Punch being there, but I totally understand about the calendar thing
