I haven’t calculated on the gear ratio yet, but I don’t think that the difference is that big.Phin wrote:Nice. Just making sure you had considered the difference in gear sizes.

He could create a motor / tranny mount plate that is longer to accommodate the motor. However he would also have to come up with new shock mounts.Hcp22 wrote:Sorry Bo, but this setup won’t work on your TS unless you change your gearbox and cut up white tube and a few outer things that I will return to laterBo Wallen wrote:Hi thereJust thinking one of my Turbo Scorpion need mid motor

Re: Kyosho Tomahawk: “All” carbon fiber runner!
Yes he could do that, but then you got to find some other gears to compensate for the longer distance. One possibility is to use an Assault ore Advance gearbox and turn it 180 degrees, and that’s my backup plan if I can’t get this setup to work. Another benefit with this setup is that you can use the original gears!

The date for the gathering/race will be may/june so you've got plenty of time to make it shine
Seems like you have some work to do and I'm following this with interest.
Cheers j0pp3

The work with removing the brushings is done. All you need is a M4 bolt, one washer and two M4 nuts. Then it’s easy to remove the brushings.

Re: Kyosho Tomahawk: “All” carbon fiber runner!
Before fitting the 27 year old Thorp-diff I was thinking of rebuilt it with new grease. Is there anyone who knows what type of grease I should use to the brass gears and steel balls? The original grease is whitish and as I said 27 years old…

Lithium grease is very good... Super slick.
For ultra protection, Mobil 1 synthetic axle grease is nice, but heavy!
As far as lubricant, I highly recommend Finishline Ceramic Wax
http://www.finishlineusa.com/products/ceramic_wax_lube.htm
I use this on all moving parts, hinges etc. it forms a waxy bond on surfaces and remains slick and reduces wear.
I use this on gears as well. It repels dirt quite nicely

Thanks Raman, so you mean that I should use “Trombone Cream” or “Tuning Slide Grease”?Raman wrote:Lithium grease is very good... Super slick.

What is the main difference that make it inappropriate to use common grease for modern cars?

The difference is the brass-diff wheel, I don’t know what impact silicon grease have on brass, and if there are other ingredients besides silicon. Maybe non, but I don’t take any changes with a $225 vintage diff

Re: Kyosho Tomahawk: “All” carbon fiber runner!
That's very understandable
Maybe try some silicon grease on a simple piece of brass and see what happens?

Inteteresting cream....
I don't know if this helps... I own the rerelease Sand Scorcher with the option diff, which is brass like the original thorp. It came with the standard ceramic lube by Tamiya. I used the AE clear lube on it.
