Great thread so far John. Hopefully you can get the chassis deal worked out because that car needs a new life for sure!
It's funny that you posted the Moody Sprint Car plans, I was watching those for the 3 times they listed them, finally I hit the buy button...going to frame them up and put them on the workshop wall. Roy was a innovative man and the handful of time I raced at Monee he was always appreciative that we made the long trek. Sad that he is not with us anymore, he LOVED the sprint cars.
But...if you guys want to see if they have the hoods still, contact Greg Z. (DirtOval.com vintage forum) and see what he has left. Has anyone seen a Moody Electric sprint besides the one in the magazine?

So another goodie came in for this car.


So onto polishing. Question, should I install the RE RE transmission as it's all new in the packages or a 6 gear (w/ black idlers) out of the parts car????

So the old trans here has the bearings and black idlers...thinking someone knew what they were doing. I didn't inspect it fully so don't know if the gears were filed or not. I think I'll steal the bearings and clean them up for the sprint car and use the Re Re parts in the Rogue case. Maybe the old trans will be used to update my old Caddy. Any thoughts on this?

Missing the spline plate. Agh. Well now I'll have one incomplete old 6 gear transmission laying around.

So my plate didn't line up perfectly to Chris' trans case. May have been my plate was a little off. Simple grinding fixed it. I love the tight tolerances. Can't wait to give it hell!!!

Lol. Yes definitely a mid motor car. I'm a picture posting whore anyways and purposely posted this pic on his transmission thread just to see how many would catch it.
So the car came with a "Lightened" motor plate. I wasn't too happy with some of the smaller holes. So I just redid it. I'm not completely happy with it, I'm not showing great results with the Easy Off. So to finish off the ano, I hit it with some sanding discs...120. Then I basically blocked with 100. I put a little polish on it for now but really need to get some finer grit sandpaper. Looks good from a distance. Pictured with original plate received with the car.


I work on it here and there...mainly between PT and workcall or lunch. I'm also thinking of taking a break from polishing and organizing parts. I haven't decided if I should run short or wide front arms. I'm thinking about picking up some wide whites. I think I have enough white parts to put it together but I'm tempted at treating it to Re Re parts like the arm mounts in particular. Possibly the rear arms, castor blocks and spindles to start fresh. But we'll see.

Fab guy called me up and got the tub bent and cut. Now I just have the task of not screwing up drilling the holes.

It's pretty close. Jesse usually works on repairing real race cars and not something this small. I can't wait to finish it and show him. He still doesn't understand what this is or how it becomes a sprint car. Lol
