HPI 240Z Cup Racer....
Well, Tower gave me $60 off, so I figure now would be a good time to get one.
So far I am very impressed with the build. I have the steering, gearboxes, and front and rear lower suspension built. High quality moulding. Ball diff in the rear, limited slip gear diff in the front. (why a gear diff I don't know)
There are 3 18" long chrome part trees just for the body details..... Body looks awesome as well. I believe I will go with a Canary yellow....
Pics to follow as I get wrapped up.

Re: HPI 240Z Cup Racer....
Got the upper chassis plate and servo installed along with the front upper control arms and cantilever shock mounts. Should have the chassis done this weekend...
Now if it would only stop raining long enough for me to get some paint sprayed....

Re: HPI 240Z Cup Racer....
It looks like HPI is doing what Tamiya has yet to fully accomplish.
Tamiya's always been #1 in scale looks, but sometimes their bizarre chassis designs don't measure up without modification of some sort.
The scale looks AND a quality chassis are hard to beat.
I think HPI nailed it with this series!
Can't wait to see it finished!

Is it true that the HPI chassis fit's all of Tamiya's M-Series bodies?

Re: HPI 240Z Cup Racer....
I will have to check to be sure about the mini bodies fitting on this car... Seems like it is a little long to work, but maybe. I'll check on it tonite. I would be more apt to say that the ABC line of bodies would fit the HPI, but I'm speculating.
I am done with the chassis on this car now. Only thing I DON'T like about this kit is the wheel mounting. It is nice that they have modular wheelspacing available, but the nut inside the hub floats. It does sit in a hex shaped mould in the hub, but it can be pushed out with the wheel mounting screw when putting on the wheels. Pretty frustrating. A little sho goo would fix that, but I would have to remove the hubs to do so. A minor quaff.
The shocks are a smaller diameter plastic body, which I wasn't too hip about, but they are silky smooth. I'll get some aluminum bodies for it when they come available.

Re: HPI 240Z Cup Racer....
Well, I finally got off of my butt and got the body finished on this car. I also swapped out the Futaba ESC for a Novak GTX. Novak XXL receiver. All I need to do now is finish routing the wiring and I'll check her off of my to do list.

Man that is a sweet looking car, very detailed, looks just plain awesome. I was planning on a tamiya wrangler for Christmas, now I'm not so sure. How much gound clearance does it have?

Not much. Maybe 5mm. It can be raised up a little with some additional spring spacers tho.junkman wrote:Man that is a sweet looking car, very detailed, looks just plain awesome. I was planning on a tamiya wrangler for Christmas, now I'm not so sure. How much gound clearance does it have?

Good luck with the Wrangler—they were discontinued already in September. The only way to find one now is from eBay Hong Kong. Re: HPI 240Z Cup Racer....
yeah, I know the discountinued them, they didn't give that one much of a run. Probably ought to keep it on the Christmas list, before the price goes up any more on them. The cup racer is still a definite must have though. All the bodies look awesome.
