international address writing & shipping ?'s

Post by badhoopty »

ok, international addresses confuse me. mostly due to my ignorance from not ever sending an international anything.

i'm writing out envelopes with int. addresses on them for the rc10talk stickers and dont wanna screw them up. some of these adressess have each thing on a seperate line, is that how its done in some places? no commas? lol, one of these addresses is like 7 lines long...

also, can i just take these letters into a fedex and slap a shipping label/stamp on them without having to fill out thier addresses again? will i have to write these addys on the fedex form as well? would it be easier to go to the dreaded post office? wait, are there int. stamps?

yes, my ignorance and stupidity are limitless...

Either way(USPS or Fed Ex) you will have to fill out a customs form with the address again. I usually write it exactly as I get it from Paypal. I never know if I do it the correct way or not, but they do end up getting it. International shipping stresses me out with the crazy addresses and me not knowing what the F Im doing.

This would be the way to do it correctly, I think the commas are optional:-

Mr.Badhoopty,
123 Front Street,
Abingdon,
London,
LN1 9EU.

1st line is self explanatory
2nd line is the number (some times a name or both) of the house and the street name
3rd line is the area within the City/Town
4th line is the City/Town
5th line is the Post Code(zip code)

When you start to explain it its kinda confusing, there can be more lines but if you keep them in this format you should be OK I have received packages with all sorts of strange formats going on. As for posting sorry Sir I don't know. Hope this helps. :)

Where are sending to. If its Asia, it should be:

Attention: Mr XXXX
Address: Block/ House no. XXX
Street name: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
District (in some area): XXXXXX normally in numerics
Postal Code: XXXXXXXXX (Singapore 123456)
Country: XXXXXXXXX (no need if to Singapore)

It really doesn't matter whether there's a comma or not. The Post man will do the job.

PM me if you need any help.

I would go USPS, as I think FedEx international is probably expensive. At the PO, use the little green slip LH side/white RH side and fill out both sides... declare a small value so that they don't have to pay import duties. You can you use the green for up to 4 pounds or 36 inches combined LWH. It should be about $2.00 to send them, as they are flat and light weight.

I would not worry too much about getting the lines right and breaking up the address. Seems like everyone or every country does it differently. They'll figure it out.

Hope that helps.
