Larger Brat wheels and hub options ?

Post by Heffay »

My buddy has the re-released Brat.
What options, that you know of, would work for larger wheels that will work with the Brat.
(We're only concerned with axle/hub/wheel mods, if the body needs to be cut to make room, that's ok.)
He'd like the Monster Beetle type, preferably.
Even if hubs and axles or whatever need to be replaced, what suggestions do you have?

Thanks for anything you can offer.

So essentially he wants to make a Mud blaster? easiest way to put 2.2 wheels on is to pick up a set of Blackfoot wheels and a CRP monter truck front wheel adapters

It doesn't do so well in the rough and bigger stuff.
With such small wheels/tires it gets high centered alot.

He had a monster beetle at one point, and liked the way the tires wore in and their performance as well.
It also just needs to look beefier. :D

Another option would be to use the HPI star wheels (for a truck). These wheels come with the adapters to run on the early tamiya cars.

I just tested the fiment of the HIP wheels on my frog and the fronts bolted on without any modifications.

The front adapters that are suppose to be used for the blackfoot increases the bearing spacing so that it fits on the blackfoot front axle. Since the frog's axles are narrower, the spacers are not needed...thus, a direct fit. :D

The only thing he may need to do is replace the fornt bumper...since the wheels and tires will be larger.

There are 2 versions of these wheels. He needs to use the version that has a higher positive offset (the SS Monster wheels):

The lower offset wheels are used on the LXT and the RC10T

hope this helps...

Thank you highwayracer!
That's the exact type of advice we're after.
I'll pass it along.
