back into a JRX2
back into a JRX2
back in '88 my dad and i got our first jrx2's. they went through many phases; stock, dirt oval (late model and edm), truck conversions, who knows what else.
i loved that car, it was my first race bread vehicle and i have so many fond memories of it.
so this morning i saw a very nice og 5 link car on the bay and i pulled the trigger. it's in very nice shape, just needs a body and wing.
looks like my graphite rc10 project is going to wait. i just couldn't pass up this jrx2 as many i have seen on the bay have been beat to death and rusty.
i'll post up some pic's as soon as it gets here.
hopefully i'll have it ready for the vonats!

Wow that's a really nice 5 like, looks like it will be a sweet ride when it's all ready.

Re: back into a JRX2
As DHC6 says, that looks really nice & in great condition. I also rather like the later Pro wheels & orange steering levers - it just adds that bit of colour
What are your plans? Run it, or sit it looking pretty on a shelf?

Re: back into a JRX2
i'm gonna run it. i run all my vintage stuff.
i may try to get it ready for the vonats too.
i'm also going to run it at the local track. my b4 gets lumped into sportsmans class due to short course trucks killing the buggy class.
so it's pretty easy competition for the b4, i think the jrx2 will be more fun in that class, probably be easy comp for the jrx2 as well.
but i highly doubt it will get out classed by a traxxas bandit or rustler. (most of what runs in our sportsmans class, them and monster trucks).
i have such awesome memories of racing my jrx2 back in the day with my dad, he had one too. i'm pretty damn excited. i'll need a body and decal sheet from mr lexan.
i'm also thinking about a low end sensorless brushless system for it, maybe the setup out of a rtr b4.1. 3300kv should be nice in a jrx2.

Re: back into a JRX2
Ah yes you did say that you might be making this your Vonats runner
I can appreciate your excitement about getting a JRX2 out on the track again... despite our location being so close to the Schumacher factory it was definately the Losis that were the most popular car for 2wd racing, & for me the car to own - they looked so sleek & purposefull compared with their counterparts & the occasional neon part were like candy in my eyes. I never got to own one as a kid - a XX was my first Losi, when I got sponsored by a local model shop.. but the old graphite plate cars still hold more interest for me over any other vintage marque
I'm hoping to one day get one minty car that will sit on the shelf & a 5 link car to run on the track built from the remaining parts - I can remember being blown away after having a go with my friend's JRX2 back in the day (the car thats now in my posession
) I'd love to see how one will perform now.

"the losi has landed"
holy crap this thing is nice. most of it looks brand new, diff tight but buttery smooth, even the shock shafts seem ok but i'll replace those and the cartridges.
thanks faceman2k, i'm a very happy boy right now.

Re: back into a JRX2
Brilliant! I didn't realise from your 1st post that the car wasn't in your possession at that time, so good when you get a car & its as good, if not better than you'd hoped. I reckon more pictures are required! Ps; Are you still going to run it? It sounds like its almost too good?

Re: back into a JRX2
it's a dilema. it's really nice but i want to run it so bad.
i'm not one to leave things on the shelf, but i have thought about it.
i really want to run it in our sportsmans class (thats where all buggies seem to end up).
it would be alot of fun to race the old girl and show up the traxxas fan boys. know what i mean?
i know one thing is for sure if i do run it i'll spend and hour removing all the pebbles and rocks from the track.
my b4 chassis looks awful from all the rocks on that track.
i'm thinking about an "old is new car", with brushless power (17.5), lipo's, newer shocks (xxx shocks i think, or at least xxx cartridges if they fit), 2.2 wheels and tires.
with a period correct paint job of course.

Re: back into a JRX2
I am glad you like the car!You should see the brand new built one i have and the one still sealed in the box!
Re: back into a JRX2
thanks man, it sure is a nice example.
funny thing is i still have the original box from my first jrx2, it's in the attic filled with old comics.
i have some wheel spacers on order so i can mount 2.2 wheels and tires on it for the vonats.

Re: back into a JRX2
I have one in the same condition.
Couldnt bear to run it so listed it on e bay. It only went for $150. So i pulled the pin on the auction as it owed me more than another $100 on top of that.
New RPM Gear cover,
New Sliders,
New performance Chassis,
Andy Front arms.
New wheels.
New shell and wing( re po)
Like new Shocks.
New Pro Steering Cranks.
So im transfering my electrics out of RC10 Graphite now and cant wait to run her

Re: back into a JRX2
i took it out for it's first run on saturday. this car rips.
electronics:
60 amp xerun esc, novak 17.5ss, turnigy 35c 3000 2s lipo.
26 tooth pinion on stock spur, it was pulling wheelies like a mod.
it steers like it's on rails with it's short wheelbase. the b4 2.2's all around work great (custom works .125 spacers and spacers on the rear end of the links so the wheels don't rub)
i can't wait to run it wednesday evening in the "vonats primer".
i forgot how much i love these cars.
