Schumacher Cat's Ive owned, raced and still have.

Post by Bormac »

Back in the late 80's I took the step up from my beloved Optima and picked up a used but very well maintained XL from a well known racer at my club (B.O.R.M.A.C). I did well with this car and while it seemed a little more complexed than my old optima it certainly yeilded some great results for me.

Years later I have come across a heap of Cat's and spares over time and have built and raced a few here and there at vintage get togethers here in Australia.

Most notably I have had a ball running this car. On its first run at the ryde facility I met up with a fellow Aussie Schumacher nut and drove it with the kit spikes and chrome rims. Needless to say it drifted through turns on what was then a hard packed (and dusty) clay surface. It was just awesome to see this car wheel around the track with the chrome rims glaring in the sun light and the sound of the tall spikes slapping at the tracks surface.
It was well worth the effort.

A few years later (and rebuilds) I took my trusty Cat to a vintage get together at St Ives for another great days fun. Sadly the rain did its best to dampen our spirits but there were those of us crazy enough to push ahead and run our cars in the mud.

Along the way Ive picked up some good, bad and very ugly cars. I have a small collection of used parts waiting to complete my next build....some day.

Sold this gem (wish I hadn't but weddings aren't cheap-LOL).

Got this one in a bulk lot. Basicaly my first real attempt at a rebuild since 1988

From a fellow racer who lost interest (can't imagine why) LOL!

This beauty went to Dangermouse here in QLD, Australia.

Currently sitting pretty in a box in my shed. NICE!

Jason - I drool over your CATs with the chrome rims every time I see them. Stunning examples......the CAT XLS is definitely one of the best looking cars in my opinion! 8)

Btw - do you polish up your shocks to get that great shine.....I don't believe they ever come like that new did they?

Charles, pretty much all the Schuey cars that come to me are close to being basket cases. Not that this bothers me but it goes to show what a good clean ( or in the dampers case) polish can do.
The Cat is a sweet looking car that's for sure. I wish there were more of them out there circulating around the race track on vintage days.
