i always liked the dahms ruff-e-nuff truck body. a few years i sent Meir from rayborn an email and he said he still had a lot of stuff left and he even sent me an old catalouge. about a year and a half ago i saw a NIB kit on ebay go for like $250! this was shortly after we had our 2nd daughter and didnt have the extra cash or i would have gotten it.
Here's a scan of included XT body. I have no idea which magazine ad it came from, and it's not featured in any of the other Raborn ads in my old mags. I had this cut-out hanging on a corkboard in my RC room.
Barry Raborn is a friend of mine. He is actually a member here but has never posted before. His name here is bullet-barry. If you've got any specific questions I can see if he can chime in to answer them. He was also owner of Bullet Racing products.
Meir currently owns M&M Hobbies here in Houston. I don't know what he still has lying around but he does still have at least one dirt oval car. So does Barry. Meir has 2 old Raborn bodies sitting on display at the store.
Sometime beginning around 1987 or so Meir opened a small hobby shop on the north side of Houston called Meir's Models and More. Barry was an employee of his. That's how I met them.
I was over at M&M watching the races and noticed an Invencer sitting on the counter inside. They are planning to run it again but this time with all modern electronics and brushless power. It should be pretty neat.
The design is about as simple and lightweight as it can get. The chassis is graphite and was made by Composite Craft. The arms were clearly inspired by the Andy's arms of the day and were made at the same place that made the RC10 parts. The rear hubs are direct copies of the Losi 2038 JRX-Pro SE hubs. There was a Raborn oval car as well which was quite different from the truck. I don't know if Meir still has one but I know Barry does.
Hey Dave, after looking at this, I believe the truck I have is an XT. I was thinking that the truck and car used the same chassis, and the XT was a hopped up version of that chassis. But I guess the X-10 is the car and the XT is the truck? I am 99% sure that mine is the same as the one in this add. I will try to post some pics tonight.
Fredswain, this may be a long shot, buy I was wondering if you would recognize my truck. The guy I got from said he got it from a guy who used to race in Houston bitd. I also got a 10T with a similar paint scheme. It looks like maybe he was sponsored by Quarter Flash.
Thanks to fredswain, I picked up this NIB Raborn Invencer XT kit a few months ago. Fred also had Barry Raborn autograph the chassis for me. :D
This truck had been my unicorn for many years, and I honestly thought I would never find a new kit. It...

Congrats on the truck Dave. It looks great. I like the paint. Very period on a sweet body. I can't decide officially but I'm leaning towards the white rims.
I am slowly modeling the Raborn Invencer, among other things right now in Creo. I just thought I'd share some of the progress. When the model is done, I'll follow it with a complete build of the actual car.

Good news. I am picking up all of the remaining original Invencer inventory from Meir tomorrow! Time to start cataloging parts.
Some pics of my Raborn Racing Invencer XT. At least I now believe it is an XT, still waiting to hear from the experts. These are just some cell phone pics. Eventually I will get some better pics of it. I am going to do a resto on it eventually, but...

I know where Magnolia is. I grew up in Spring and worked in Magnolia for almost 5 years. Barry lives in Bellaire inside the loop. He's only about 10 minutes away from M&M. He'd love to see it. Let me know when you want to go over there to see his...
Ok so I've been away from the site for a bit. I've been dumping money into the big oval car and selling off my collection. Then I was sucked back into the sport and began campaigning my old trusty Raborn LTO car along with trying my hands at a CW...

On hard pack where 2.2 offroad style tires aren't run, the Invencer with the new updates is absolutely a modern car stunner. I'm working on a 2.2 solution for dirt tracks that run them btw. A new dirt oval is going to open here again soon so Barry...
The March issue of RCCA has a cool Retro section - car descriptions (RC10, Bruiser, Hotshot and more), Pit Tips, as well as old Rc ads.
For those that know Nigel, there is a very good article on his miniature reproductions
