RC10DS - having some fun...

Post by BigFisher »

Hello everyone... I recently pulled out my old RC10DS to show my 5 year old son. He was mildly excited however I got the RC bug again. It's been like 15 years since I built this car and I barely ran it back in the day. From what I remember, my local hobby shop recommended the RC10DS - then I went out to meet other people that were into the hobby and my car seemed inferior to other battery/on-road/1:10 class cars. I put a little money into it... upgraded the bearings, added an ESC and new motor but it still didn't do well in a crowd so I shelved the car and other life responsibilities took over.

So here I am now. I'd like to rebuild it just for fun and the love of this hobby. Maybe along the way my son will pick up the same passion I have. So my goal is to re-build it as though it was meant to actually compete in a racing event.

I'm looking for some advice on how to upgrade the kit. I've read through some of these threads and found the RC CARBON WORKS site, HPI Touring Wheel upgrade information and an available body (picked up the HPI 68 Chevy Camaro body).

I'm a little unsure about what to do with the ESC and motor. I don't remember the details about the motor other than the brand was Midnight. The kit was running with a Novak Explorer ESC but I had purchased a brand new Novak Cyclone before I shut it down. The Cyclone was never used so I'd like to hook that up provided there is no significant reason why that would be a bad idea.

Any advice/ideas would be appreciated. I notice some of the DS builds have the blue aluminum anodized parts - I'm having a hard time finding any shops with those in stock.

Any recommendation on the ESC/motor? Would the HPI Mod for wheels be a logical upgrade if the car was intended to be raced?

thanks
-Mark
