Getting my B3 up to date

Post by 2500M_Sub »

Okay so I just purchased a Castle SV2 sidewinder and 4 pole 4600KV motor, will be getting a new 2.4 radio, lipo and charger in the near future. Any recomendations on what pinion gear to use? I believe it came with an 81t spur, should I be changing the spur as well? I have also read about updating the slipper to a b4 slipper? Is that necessary? if so why is it better?

Regards,

Ren

I'd prob start out with a 18T spur gear and watch your engine temps. If they are low, set it up a few teeth on the pinion, if hot drop it down a few. You can run the stock slipper, but the B4.1 clutch setup will make it more consistent and easier to adjust. I'd try what you have, see how it works and go from there.

I agree with above - 18 tooth is a good start.
I use a 21 tooth with a 3900kV motor and I wouldn't go any higher (motor gets pretty warm... although ambient temperatures are also pretty warm down here in South Texas).

I also use the stock B3 slipper, it works fine for everything except very high-end racing applications.
